I think I am just going to change out the amp to the stratos extreme - upgrade a few cables, add 2 more acoustic panels...

And thatll be it - I think I am going to hold off on the 2nd sub for now though.

    Looks very nice!

    I love the look of those speakers, I'm sure they sound as good as they look. You've done quit a few upgrades in the last couple years...

    P.S. I am sure that transformer works better that the magic pebbles or moon rocks ;)

    Good plan. Change out the amp, then focus on something more important. A second sub would be extreme overkill in your room, anyway.

    No wonder the signal didn't look that good.

    You don't need to spend ANY money to get an HDTV signal - just set your TV to "Clear QAM Decode" instead of "ATSC" mode and connect your Cable to the TV - then you get all the HDTV channels your cable company makes you pay for - since the cost is going towards the digital box.

    And no, it's not illegal.

    You're just supplying the tuner (if you have one in your tV) and not using the HD box that the cable company charges extra for.

    What do you mean by "premium" HDTV channels?

    If you are talking about HBO HD, Cinemax HD , Showtime HD, etc. then no.

    But I do get "premium" HDTV channels such as Discovery HD Theater, TNT HD, ESPN HD, and also CBS, NBC, ABC, UPN, PBS, WB, FOX in HD just by plugging my HDTV with QAM tuner into the cable.

    The cable company usually charges $9-10 for these channels.

    Agreed. Two VMPS subs in that room will be overkill, let alone one.

    Futon is here to stay unless I want to get a couch - not a big priority though.

    You just need an HT preamp now. Add center and surrounds, plus a 5ch amp...Then your system will be complete.

    Hey Sid --

    Just got back from my friend's house. His ribbon mahogany Taylo 7U's arrived yesterday. The speakers are gorgeous!!! He has them hooked up to -- guess what? That's right -- a Shanling T100 CDP and a pair of Shanling monoblocks. I swear, that Shanling gear looks extremely impressive. Even with the temporary cables he's using, the 7U's were awesome and very, very "fast." Surprisingly, the bass was outstanding. Very deep, much, much deeper than I expected them to be. No sub required, IMO.

    You have some great gear. Don't screw it up and get the speaker "upgrade" bug. However, I think your next change-out should be the cables. Your cables should match the quality of your gear.

    The bass of the 7u is ASTONISHING. They miss that VERY last octave - so I cross my sub over real low.

    Cables, maybe - eventually.

    But, yes they are phenominal.
