This is very interesting to note that first generation machines are crapping out in unprecedent numbers in this quarter. Not to be a conspirator theorists, but how would you explain that?

Sid, the 1 year extension valid from the time it was connected online, thus his machine, as well as mine, are out of warranty, and it costs $139.90 to fix.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Mine was purchased 12/06 and it was covered under warrantee, I can't see why one from Nov. wouldn't be covered.

As for the Elite, the board is different. Hopefully different enough that it prevents this problem.

Not a conspiracy. Just bad quality control and some obvious poor design choices inherent in the original engineering. The elite may have slightly different electronics, but if it's running hot that's killing these things, the elite runs just as hot with basically the same chip. I bought mine the last holiday season. Guess I should just hope my doesn't crap out. I thought they would have made an effort to solve some issues after a year of production. Guess the whole production run still has major issues...:(

Man, you guys are having some **** luck. I bought mine in April of 06' and haven't had a single hiccup *knock on wood*.

I would ask what kind of environments these are being kept in and how handling of the unit itself, but even still they shouldn't be that fragile. At least they're replacing the busted units still under warranty.

Cool basement environment, sat at the top of my rack in the open air. Didn't really handle it at all, just the eject button, used wireless remote.

Mine is sitting on an open space, and ventilation is NOT an issue. It might have a total of 150 hours playing time.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Mine just did a little dance today ,I was watching Serenity and it just stopped playing the movie in the HD player,so I ejected it and tried a game in the console,it brought up the white xbox screen then went nowhere. So i called the hotline and the automated help fixed the problem,I unhooked all of the cables, then took the hard drive off, hooked everything back up and poof! Back in buisness.I went through two PS3's so don't hate on the 360,this is the first one.:D

The first time I had the freezing up issue, about 6 weeks ago, I had identical problem with mine, and followed the recorded message like you did. 3 days later, the three red rings showed up. I do believe that the HD-DVD drive has put some extra load on the console, and in some cases caused the overheating issue. However, mine was caused by memory error.

I tell you, the timing is definitely odd and seems to indicate design issues.

Add me to the list of dead 360's. Red ring codes indicate a power supply problem. Mine was bought Feb 06, but I did have the 2 yr replacement at BB. Got to ship it in tomorrow (they won't take back at the store) and then I get a voucher for the the value plus tax to use on anything in the store.

:D LOL! That's just pathetic. Microsoft saw you all coming & had a real good time taking you to the cleaners!

Anyone that bothers to give Microsoft some more of their hard earned money for the next peice of crap they put out will deserve whatever they get.

    How sad.

I've had my original Xbox for over 4 yrs. and haven't had a problem with it but boy did I go through some 1st gen PS2's! Hell,I went through four 64's and after awhile I just stopped buying Atari's due to break downs.

I only went through one first gen PS2, and I played the **** out of it.....I have yet to have a problem with the slim model, and it spent a year in the desert....Looked like they got it right...I think the reason the original Xbox has proven so durable is that they really couldn't afford to have reliability issues coming out so much later than the PS2...This time they f'd up big time...Did I mention that they are releasing ANOTHER version that will top the PS3's highest price point? Talk about trying your luck. They rushed it into production to beat Sony, and now they want to release the version that should have been released in the first place...Worthless mother fu#$%rs....

You do have a point,I'm not to happy with either of my new system buys,I went through two ps3's and one 360 hd player.I'm now shopping for a stand alone hd player,I haven't had any problems with my 360 console yet.:)

Go buy a Wii....Nintendo let Sony and Micropenis release their shitboxes then blew them out of the water man....I never thought I could enjoy gaming the way I do with the Wii....It's just plain fun, no extra gizmos and ****...I will bite the bullet and buy a PS3 when the next Gran Tourismo comes out......Until then I will be happy as hell with my Wii....

I am surprised that no lawyer has thought about starting a class action for the xbox360 apparent breakdown (by the boatload) record, so far.

For me, I do feel that the quality of the 360 games will keep lots of owners to put up with the console, including myself. The experience of COD and GRAW, and soon to be HALO3 will keep me interested in the console, even if it means going through a new unit once a year. yep, that will be the case, until PS3 games selection get caught up with 360. Wii is on my list, perhaps this Christmas.

I sure hope not. $400 a year for the chance to spend even more on xbox live and the price of games. I bought their premium box and as long as it lasts I'll enjoy it. But with the wii finally becoming available and new ps3 games on the way, if mine red rings out of warranty, there's plenty more gaming without replacing MS's paper weight.

they won't replace at BB? I thought that's why people actually spend that much money on a replacement plan...so you can just bring in the broken one and exchange for a new one..?
