Stacking equipment and heat

Okay...now you will wonder how I have lived so long and not destroyed equipment. My HT stand (which is simply a huge HDTV stand) has only two shelves. I put the big **** amp in the lower shelf and the preamp in the upper second shelf. I stuck my DVD on top of the preamp. The preamp generates a lot of heat (which was news to me since I didn't realize this would happen). And the DVD always makes a little heat as well. I assume instead of just putting a spacer between them, I should just get the DVD player off the preamp, eh? The only real option is on a speaker....also bad idea, eh?

    At LEAST do a spacer until you figure something else out. Anything cheap will work but I thought these were pretty cool and inexpensive.... http://avrisers.net/default.aspx

    You could move the amp to an amp stand on the floor, which would free up some shelf space.

    Thanks for the suggestions (and this was not piss poor planning on my part--mostly)....just a cheap TV stand I bought a couple years ago. I'll see if I have clearance for a riser. I might even be able to move the amp, though I am not sure I can get it close enough without all new interconnects...in fact, I am sure I can't....I think moving the DVD would have to be the option...then a trip to the anti-christ of furniture stores....NFM...if you have not been to one, think big, very big. P.S. It is usual for a preamp processor to run warm...it seems to be much warmer than the amp.

    DC Fans can assist the cooling process. I installed four of them on my setup which I purchased a couple of years back on ebay. My equipment runs a little warm, but nothing excessive.

    When I absolutely, positively have to stack because I've run out of rack space, I use Mapleshade Isoblocks. They are about 2 inches high and they are light in weight. They are only $24 per four.

    I use these myself, there made by a fellow over at the carver forum btw. Heres a pic.

    Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D
