    I think of cheap and loud. Whether that's right or not, I'll leave it to you. Looks very "Garage band"ish to me.

    Yep, I had a pair of CV's when I young and naive. I remember them being terribly bright, almost ear piercing!

    My uncle had a nightclub. He had CV's all over the place. Ampzilla and Son of Ampzilla amps driving them. Couldnt kill them. Played at extreme dB's for hours.

    This is probably where they are best suited. Cheap, loud speaker that are very easy to drive.

    If you want loud in a conventional speaker, hell yeah. If you want accuracy and imaging just keep looking. For the general buyer CV is a pretty good deal. We used to DJ with them. 104 db sensitivity didn't need a lot of power to rock the gym.

    Just like the MTX crap. It's for bass heads that wouldn't know good bass if it punched them in the chest.

    If you're planning a huge college kegger....get them. They are a great party speaker. But definitely not meant for serious listening. In fact if you were to ever play anything other than rock or rap through Cerwins I think they would probably die of shear confusion.

    Hey, there's a time and a place for everything, right? And for me, that was senior year of college when I had some tip money burning a hole in my pocket and a desire for loud, bass heavy tunes. My place always ended up being the late night hang out and the Re-12s were the ticket. Old-style treated paper surround, 4" paper midranges and mylar tweeters, with a 12" woofer crossed over at 500Hz (haha). But they played low and loud. I added a 200W 15" CV down-firing sub at one point that literally shook stuff off the shelves at one point and was in lo-fi heaven (yes, it exists). I'm sure I'd think they were shite today, but they made me grin ear to ear 8 years ago. Fun times.

    That reminds me. I totally forgot about the passive downfiring 12 CV sub that was part of my first home stereo system when I was 13. In fact it's still in my garage. It's big enough that it could pass as a small coffee table. Holy cow would that thing thump.

    You'd be surprised, loud yes, low...well, not really. Sorta like the old Pioneer CS's...big ol' 15 inch woof but you really didn't get anything below 50 cycles (if that). They were bumped up about 10db in the mid-bass so you thought you were getting bass but it was all just an illusion.

    I started with a pair of Cerwin-Vega D-7's. They were a great speaker for what they were used for. (college parties) They were easy to drive and with most popular music of the time, didn't sound that bad.

    I loved the heck out of them. They were replaced with a pair of SDA-1b's, but even then were fondly remembered. Nothing for critical listening, but they were great speakers to listen to tunes and dancing with a couple hundred of your closest friends... :)

    My old roommate had some old Cerwin Vega VS-120's back in the day. WOW were they loud. I'm sure I'd think differently now, but like a couple of other people have said; it was perfect for that age/time period.

    I remember going to parties in high school where this guy (friend of a friend) had 4 C-V's blasting AC/DC in the basement. I always thought "Wow, this guy has a kick-**** stereo". My reference at the time was my Panasonic rack system - you know the kind with the large speakers that only have one full-range cone.

    15" Pyles is where I got my start. I agree with most of you who echo that its a particular type of loudspeaker for a particular application, like anything else.

    The dual 15 drivers in their biggest tower would be ideal for a block party.

    tony, i would have to disagree. i think they went well below that range. i owned the vs-120 and were one hell of a speaker. not much imaging, but not that bad. not much accuracy, but i have heard way worse. loud . YES..i loved them and wish i still had them. i crank my polks up and love them, but i never push them like i pushed my cerwins. you could not hurt the cerwins, they were monsters. i'm to afraid to hurt my polks so i don't crank them like i would when i had my cv's. the VS series were built like tanks, thick, big, and loud. its hard to find a speaker built so tough these days. dollar for dollar i really think cerwins are the best bang for the buck.

    just my opinion.....but, what the hell do i know, i buy my meats from the dollar store:confused:

    I crank my polks all the time the only thing I ever blow is my HK I have had to send it back to them 3 times. I sent it off to them last week as a matter of fact my left channel started to sound like a rain storm.

    A guy that is interested in buying my vintage pioneer stuff was comparing HPM-150s to Cerwin-Vegas. Not saying the 150s are the be all end all of speakers but they certainly don't deserve to be lumped with CVs.

    Ha!! I convinced my dad to buy that monster ($200 of Crutchfield) maybe 16 years ago for his system!! It stayed in the fray until just a few years ago. Four legs and big as hell, it was definitely a coffee table unto itself. I totally forgot about that thing, too. Funny stuff.

    And yeah, it wasn't 50Hz making books fall off the mantle or depressurizing my chest cavity. Those CVs moved a LOT of air. I do remember being covetous of my friend's 15" Pioneers as a kid but they were all bark, no bite, for sure.

    Do a search on audioasylum.com....this series were designed by one of NHT's engineers. I've been eyeing the bookshelf model....until J&R raised their price by $30.00/each.

    These were great in college. If some freshman comatosed on beer you just throw them in front of a speaker and they came back to life. If the culprit was liquor, just throw them next to the sub.

    I still have a pair of Vs-150's. Sound like ****, but like everyone else has said, LOUD as a mfer.. Id have to disagree with the 50hz as low-end limit. I would say i was easily in the low 30's. I still break them out from time to time when I have a BBQ or pool party in the summer.. I wouldnt sell them for anything. I guess its the nastalgia of them.. I believe I bought them in 1992 along with my 1st decent receiver (Onkyo).
