Planet Earth on BR and HD-DVD

I'm just curious, where did you do your research??
There are HD DVD players that are HDMI 1.3 compliant, more so than BR. The real question is why do you need it, you don't need HDMI 1.3 to pass TrueHD, DTS-HD, or lossless audio.

Mike - according to the Wikipedia entry for HDMI, version 1.3 is where you get the passthrough for DTS-HD and TrueHD. My understanding is that some players with previous version of the standard have internal decoding. Also, all of the HD-DVD players that have 1.2 or earlier do DTS core decoding... which is basically the DTS we currently are used to on regular DVDs, not the possibility of DTS-HD Master goodness.
Looks like I made a boo boo and missed the HD-XA2 that has HDMI 1.3 and DTS-HD internal decoding.Brian Knauss

All of the 2nd gen Toshiba HD DVD players do 5.1 TrueHD and 1st gen players had 5.1 TrueHD enabled with 2.0 firmware.
Doh! Crutchfield has old info. Still only does DTS core, though. Blah. The Tosh site doesn't mention is the A2 and A20 do HDMI 1.3, so don't know if you can do the passthrough.Brian Knauss

I hate to point people to another forum, but this link has some VERY good information regarding HDMI 1.3.

Mike - not a problem pointing toward other forums. My problem with AVS is that its sometimes near impossible to find simple info like I was looking for. Unless you follow threads on products everyday, you're going to miss 1 or 1230812039213 pages, then you miss all the good info! AVS is just too huge for its own good.Brian Knauss

bknauss,
I just find it maybe rude sometimes to point people to other forums. I personally learned alot of good information on AVS, like you said though, AVS is too huge and it is hard to find information some times.

Well, I caved from the pressure of my wife and bought the BD set. I was able to use some stackable coupon codes for Warner.com and got a good price. We finished up disk #1 last night, this is some of the most impressive film making and worth every penny. So glad I bought this, seriously great stuff here and with the HD image on an 85" screen, wow!If...

Yes, they went to the original BBC narration by David Attenborough. I haven't sat down to watch everything yet, but I've thrown a couple discs in on tv's at work and some of the footage is incredible. Working around HDTV's all day, there's not a whole lot that blows me away, but this consistently does.
