RTi4 speakers: horizontal or vertical placement?

i just purchased a pair of RTi4 speakers. the size and shape of the shelf i put them on has made me lay them on their sides, horizontally. will i get as good a sound guality as placing them vertically, with the tweeter above the woofer, rather then side by side"?
