i just purchased a pair of RTi4 speakers. the size and shape of the shelf i put them on has made me lay them on their sides, horizontally. will i get as good a sound guality as placing the vertically, with the tweeter above the woofer, rather then side by side"?

Either way is fine, especially with a small bookshelf speaker like the 4.

Welcome to the boards, and thanks for choosing Polk Audio.

One thing I'll add is if placing the speakers horizontally- which you may do, be sure that they are a mirror image- meaning both the tweeters are on outside or the inside.
