My brother got shot today

I want to fill my audio rack with lead shot so I asked my brother to go to the local supplier for the Chicago Police Department to pick some up and guess what happened?

He was asked to show his gun card or FOID (Firearms Owners Identification card). Thankfully he has one so he got the shot. But if John Q Public wanted to fill his audio rack with lead shot he would not be able to purchase it. WTF is that about?

Damn bro!! I thought you meant shot as in SHOT!!! Well, that's a relief. As far as not being able to purchase without proper ID, I'm clueless. Sounds like the PC police might be at it again.

    Nice thread title.

As far as getting lead shot, I've never had a problem. I used to buy it all the time in up in Wa for making drift fishing weights, and what I-Sig said, I can probably walk into Wally-World and buy it here.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

IL is one of the weird states, along with CA, NJ, and sadly what MA has become. I'd assume you have a local law requiring that "ammunition componets" be bought with a permit. Or the place could have been **** with him.

Darla - Don't understand why an officer of the law such as yourself had to buy lead shot off the net? I didn't want to buy it on the net @ 25lbs per bag = $hipping co$t. Not only that but imagine how shipping companies treat packages - I'd open a box and have pellets everywhere.

Guess I could've phrased the title differently but it got your attention didn't it? I thought it was kind of funny too - guess I got a sick sense of humor (so does my brother, he couldn't stop laughing).

C'mon everybody, after you read it through, you know you got a chuckle out of it ;):D

All of the sporting goods stores I checked with did not sell it. They referred me to Shore Galleries.

I've owned full auto weapons legally in Illinois so the State isn't too oppressive.

He was asked to show his gun card or FOID (Firearms Owners Identification card).

In 1968, Illinois enacted legislation to promote and protect the health, safety and welfare of the public by providing a system of identifying persons who are not qualified to acquire or possess firearms and firearm ammunition within the State of Illinois. The Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) Act established a practical and workable system to identify persons prohibited by Section 24-3.1 of the "Criminal Code of 1961" as amended, from acquiring or possessing firearms and firearm ammunition. The Illinois State Police was given the responsibility of administering the Act.

You need an FOID card in Illinois to legally purchase a firearm or ammunition. I can't recall the exact wording of the law, or if it has changed, but supplies to make ammo will also get you carded.

In "free" Illinois, meaning outside of the Chicago metro, you can buy lead shot without having to show your FOID card. It's only in Chicago metro counties that have enacted some extra laws to protect you (kind of like they protected that bartender lady :o ) that you need a FOID card to buy lead shot.

My old neighborhood in the city of Pittsburgh, that's another story.

We used to live In Aurora, IL. There was no one "bad side" of town and they had serious gang problems. There were pockets of bad hoods on all sides of that city. We had a SWAT team surround the house across the street from ours to capture a gang banger that shot another. We even had police copters flying over the house that night. Much of what happened never made the Chicago evening news. I suspect the gambling boat in downtown Aurora had something to do with that.

The city ended up banning all military type weapons. My specialty was mid to high end civilian firearms along with collectable military weapons. M1 garands, M1/M2 carbines, M14's. They got my address from the Feds as I had a FFL and Class III license and sent me a registered letter with an effective date to turn them in or sell anything that was listed in the ban.

And of course, everyone knows the gangbanger weapon of choice is the Garand rifle. You know, because that M1 just fits so well under a puffy jacket. :D
