Hi,

Not sure what is going on but my right speaker's tweeter (Definitive Tech BP10B) is making a crackling sound, even at low volumes...

Any ideas why this may be happening?

    both speakers or one?

If just one - switch the right and left channel and see if it follows.

I doubt it is the crossover - The member here that modified them made them pretty much a tank.

I doubt anything is actually wrong with the speaker.

I listen at low levels only. Usually I listen around 70db but sometimes at 75db.

Will try - but just got back from college and I am really tired.

I think it has something to do with running my receiver at 4 ohms.

The receiver says "Caution: Minimum speaker impedance = 8 ohms"

Its not the speaker. I am currently watching a movie right now and there is nothing wrong wth the right speaker in Dolby Digital mode. It only happens in 2 channel stereo.

I have a similar problem with a pair of outdoor Atrium 45's. Right speaker cuts in and out. Nothing consistent to pinpont what's going on. Thought it was temperature related. Have the speakers working fine since 7/06. As soon as it got cold (less than 30F) things went crazy. It's not the speaker or the wiring (had electrician replace it). Running current to the "B" speakers on the back of an older Sony STR-DB830 reciever. 8 ohm vs 4 ohm switch doesn't seem to matter. Very frustrating! Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks. Mark

if possible take the speaker in and have a tech check it out. My bud had a problem similar, turned to be wiring installation gone wrong. Let them run a tone gen on it, also could be a problematic AVR, crossover.

Sorry, should have been clearer. Already ruled out a problem with the R speaker itself, switched speakers and still a right-sided problem. Next step, have a new R wire run from the reciever to speaker. No better. Switch wiring on the back of the reciever (R to L) and problem reverts itself to L speaker. It's got to be within the reciever or the signal going into it. Seems to be less of a problem when playing a DVD. Mostly a problem with audio coming from the cable TV box, fed into the reciever. We have 30+ music channels provided by the cable carrier which I like to play outside on the deck while enjoying the music inside as well. Thanks again.

hello all..didnt want to start new thread...

I have a Onkyo TX-SR804 reciever with polk RTi-10 speakers. Through the digital audio plugs I have my ps3, dvd and tv. My cd and directv audio are plugged in through rca's. Everything is basically under the TV.

Problem is when I get to a certain volume level the speakers start to crackel. There is also a hum once in awhile..I played with the impendence and it started to do the hum..bought new speaker wire 16g and redid the wireing so there not mixed with the other cables and it still does it...

my audio/video wires are still messed up and I plan i redoing them but can this **** be anything else?

    any ideas?

    thx

I have had an Onkyo TX-SR500 and experienced the same problem.

Turned out to be loose solder connections inside the reciever - take it to a local TV repair shop and they should be able to fix it.

That pertains to a bunch of Onkyo receivers which had this problem.

My current Onkyo TX-SR702 is rock solid, though.
