Movie Audio

I`m new at Club Polk.

I have a situation where the movie audio when playing a dvd does not have the clarity of dialogue or volume as when I have FM selected and listening to music and broadcast(which sound great). I`m thinking it is the DVD player which is a Panasonic (Progressive scan) Model DVD331. Im feeding that into a 5.1 Yamaha HTR5635 receiver. My speakers are Polk Monitor 30s for the mains, Polk Monitor CS1 for the center. and Polk R15s for the rear surrounds. The woofer is a Velodyne VX10. I`m frustrated with trying to resolve this issue. I have gone through the Panasonic`s users manual and have set all the requirements as stated. Any advice will be helpful.

Thanks
Joe

I think you probably need to calibrate your system to make sure the level of volume is correct for all speakers based on your room size, seating distance, etc. You may need to bump up the dbs for your center to get better dialogue.

90% of dialogue comes out of the center speaker when running 5.1, so make sure your center is hooked up and calibrated optimally.

I could also be an issue with the receiver. It too has to be set properly to either recieve or decode the infomation correctly that it is getting from the DVD player.

Thank you for your input. I have pumped up the volume on the center channel so that the dialogue is more pronounced; however, when I then select 5 channel stereo the center channel volume overshadows the main speakers and is way too loud. I have set all the settings on the receiver as per the users manual but I still have the same problem. This may or may not be a problem. I don`t know. Maybe I have a defective receiver or need to contact Yamaha`s tech services.
