Is anyone interested in the new Tarantino-Rodriguez double feature that's coming out on the 6th of April?

I am as excited for this as I have been for any movie in a long time.
I subsist on a steady diet of B-movie schlock and Creature Features. This seems to be perfectly up my alley.

If anything, it has one of the greatest move posters in recent memory....

Man, this movie looks like absolute garbage to me. I understand what they are doing but the reaction seems ridiculous. People calling RR and QT artistic visionaries and such seems crazy to me.

Maybe it's just me but spending an A budget on a B movie seems moronic when plenty of B movies are still being produced.

Sorry for the negative feelings but this movie along with QT is being so talked up here at school, it is making me sick.

Love almost everything Rodriguez and Tarantino have done so far, I doubt this will be an exception.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Did anybody see the skit on The Soup combining the ex-Paul McCartney and the chick with the gun for a leg in Grindhouse?:D

btw Tarantino has been mandatory college viewing since Pulp Fiction. It's like selling used books and doing the Walk of Fame:p

QT lifts material from a lot of directors, but to be honest he steals well. He's a lot better director that is able to make movies unique and entertaining. A feat that is hard to pull off.

It's one thing to steal an idea, it's quite another to make it work. I do respect QT for being a master or his art.

It is not a lack of respect I hold just a feeling that if even RR was doing this on his own it would fail. I like the concept, I like the plots of the movies - great B-movie stuff. I do not like how when a B-movie is a B-movie it is crap yet when QT's A-movie is B-movie it is genius.

But, QT is just not my style either. Like I said, the amount this movie is being talked up at school just increases my bad feelings towards it probably.

I do hope it does great and from that, current B-movies will be recognized and maybe one of those guys will get their breaks.

Agree with you Led, QT is going down the M-nightshittymovie path of getting gradually worse and worse as his career progresses.

How is it B-movie stuff, though? His dialogue is what drives his movies. The rest of it is just a bonus. Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs have to be 2 of the best written movies of all time.

The popular movies he's written, in chronological order :

Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, Pulp Fiction, Natural Born Killers, From Dusk Till Dawn, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill, Grindhouse.

Now, granted there's nowhere to go but down from Reservoir Dogs / Pulp Fiction, but the rest of those movies are all great (Natural Born Killers wasn't quite my cup of tea, but...), and I don't really see a downward trend. Kill Bill was fantastic, and that's his most recent movie until Grindhouse.

Well, I'll probably be hated for this but... I don't think Reservoir Dogs is that great. I do believe it deserves all the credit it gets and it actually held some inspiration for me after I watched it. On a second viewing, I found it boring.

Though like I said, it was influential on me after the first viewing but, that's it.

    My ratings in Chronological order:
    RD: Good, entertaining. Genre defining
    TR: eh
PF: A refined version of RD
    NBK: Ok
FDTD: B movie's at their best, so bad it's ok
    JB: Sucked
KB: Ok to poor, grossly overrated

To me, nothing beyond PF and RD has any rewatchability for me. Of course I can see how others love him, I just don't.

I've never seen Reservoir Dogs, but I've seen the other 3 (or 4) he's personally done. I thought Pulp Fiction was excellent. Jackie Brown is highly underrated, to me it was a great movie. Maybe because it's not written so over-the-top like his others it desn't get the same interest. My reaction to Kill Bill was mixed. The first movie started good and then became rather repetitive. The second movie blew me away, but it could have used a little more action. I think cutting both together would have produced a superior movie.

Tarantino wanted the Kill Bills to be one movie, but couldn't cut out enough to make it into a less than 3 hour movie, so he split it up to avoid cutting out too much.

Kurt Russell is ideal for a movie like this... ever see "Big Trouble in Little China"?

I loved Kill Bill - especially part Deux. RD was great also. I never dug Pulp Fiction and couldn't get through the first 20 minutes of True Romance. Grindhouse looks too dark and violent for me.

My favorite B movie of all time.

Pretty sure I can quote it from start to finish, I've seen it so many times.

    "China is here, Mr Burton..."
"What does that mean, huh? China is here? I don't even know waht the hell that means, all I know is this Lo Pan character pops up in the middle of a goddamn alley, while his buddies are flying around on wires cuttin' everybody to shreds, and he just stands there, waiting for me to drive my truck straight through him? With LIGHT comin' out of his mouth?"

Just got back from the marathon of B-movie action we call the Grindhouse.

    ****POSSIBLE SPOILER BELOW!!!****

Planet Terror - Great Man movie. Plot sucked, acting sucked, lots of action, hot chicks showing skin, pointless explosions, mutants/zombies, blood splattering, Fergie died (HURRAY!), limbs getting ripped off with the greatest of ease... overall a great man movie!

Death Proof - WTF was that QT??? Horrible is what I call it. Talk about retarded and pointless. Started out boring, then a big collision. Then what felt like 4 hours of boringness/time filler and then a cool car chase scene that went on way to long and ended really bad. Acting was better than in Planet Terror but for what? They spent all that time building up the first group of girl's storyline for a cool ending to them. Then the buildup of the next group of girls was so boring, all I could keep hearing in my head was from Monty Python's Holy Grail, "GET ON WITH IT!" That was the only thing that kept me awake was my laughing at the mental thought of that. GET ON WITH IT! Oh oh sorry... So the ending was....eh. And could there be a few more "Mother ****" thrown in there or what??? Damn! Definitely had the feeling of QT with absolutely no idea where he wanted the story to go and really took some of my respect for QT down a couple notches. Pathetic and an hour and a half I'll never get back. Because of that alone, I will not own this movie. I don't think I'll get a want to watch Planet Terror again so no, I won't even rent this.
