I agree! Not my cup of tea either, but I've seen some F-ugly speakers (my opinion) that others think are b-e-U-tiful. To each their own.

    I wonder how they sound??

I love the clean/simple/classic look of the B&K amps. Dan, I know you love your 200.5, and will likely take it to the grave with you. Are you considering this one?? Seems close enough to you.

I'd seriously consider it if not for the 6+ hour drive each way. I'm currently running a Rotel RMB-1075 for my front stage and surrounds with the rears still driven by my Anthem MRX-500. Love the Rotel, but having one amp power all 7 speakers is tempting. How do the two amps (B&K and Rotel) stack up to one another in terms of sound quality...?

    @scubalab

If I had the money for it, I'd already have it and be selling the Vampire Wire RCA cables to offset the cost. Part of me wanted it, but I just couldn't buy it outright and tie up cash waiting for my amp to sell.

My B&K will ride with me to the grave, and I've got service schematics to get it repaired and a good local tech to fix it if needed.

I even debated selling my 200.5 for this instead but I just cant get there. Any honestly I already have my rack ghetto rigged with extra 2x4 supports to keep it from collapsing with the CURRENT amp I have. Adding two or even more weight would likely implode my rack....

The ONLY way I'd debate switching is if a Sunfire TGA came along at a RIDICULOUS price.......

If I'm somewhat between you and it I might be able to help get it closer to you for a small fee, mainly to cover gas.....

    Dan,

That's a generous offer, and I know there are some fine folks here, like yourself, who could help get it closer! Unfortunately, I'm in Central PA... opposite side of OH from you. That, however, is a good thing! As much as I'd love to try it, I'm in a similar position as you... I'd have to sell some other stuff first. It's become a bad habit of mine to buy something new with the intention of selling something old afterwards! For some reason... selling the old becomes less of a priority once the 'new' is in my hands. That's just the hoarder in me!!

And there ain't nothin' wrong with your ghetto rack. I kinda like the two-by's helping carry the load of your equipment! Brings me back to my college days of custom built (plywood, cinder block, and milk crate) audio racks. A supported rack is always better than a sagging rack! :p

As for the B&K, I do have that AV5000, Series II for which you offered to copy your schematics and send to me. I like the warm sound of it (even considering only 2 of the 5 channels seemed to be performing 100%) given the very short trial I gave it. I hope to get that serviced and either move on, or swap in place of the Rotel. I know the reference series is the better line and the 200.x models put out 200 WPC in 8 ohms. Do you have any thoughts on how B&K's sound would compare to the Rotel?

Feel free to PM me! I'd hate to pull this thread too far off topic.

I have no real world experience so take this as my opinion based on reading. I've heard Rotel is very neutral compared to the B&K which is generally considered warm.

When I was looking to buy I wanted very much to snag that Rotel 1090 in the flea market because for the price it was a good buy, and local to save shipping. I missed out on it, and ended up getting the B&K for a steal, and was lucky enough to have someone nearby who could audition it, pay/pickup/ship it to me.

Now would the nuetrality of the Rotel be a problem with my LSi's? I couldn't tell you, but the B&K is very nice, doesnt do anything wrong I've noticed, only thing is its runs a tad warm at all times, and at least mine the 12v trigger hiss's if you use it, so I have to manually turn the amp on and off, but I'm going to get that looked at soon.

Its got power for days which is what I wanted, and since I've got the infrastructure in place to keep it going should problems arise, its not going anywhere... unless that Sunfire comes calling, as I know a guy with one of those and it runs cool to the touch, has power for days as well, and I like Sunfire... It was 3x what I paid for the B&K though lol...

AR-2ax for $195. I had a pair in the early 70's and loved them. Don't know how they would compare to the Monitor 7's I have now, but would like to hear them again.

This is my amp and it can be located in Western Ohio or I can leave it at my parents house in Pittsburgh, PA. This is why it is listed on the pittsburgh craigslist and dayton, ohio craigslist. It is also on the klipsch forums. It was powering Klipsch RF -7 and RC - 7. I really don't have a use for it right now in the current house setup I live in.

Way over priced on those Legacys....and they didn't retail for over 10k either. You can pick up a pair these days in the 2-2500 range which makes them a steal and retail was around 6-7k depending....certain finishes were 500 bucks extra. I know, I have them....and I paid 4k about 7 years ago for them. Those even look like the original Focus, not the 20/20's which make them worth even less.
