Binding post problem

Y'all,

As you can see form my pics, I have a major binding post problem. The thing that makes it hardest to fix is the fact the the threads don't run all the way to the end.

So....do I buy new posts and take it to the Stereo Hospital (that has obviously done a great job with the amp that AndyG bought from me) or do I find some real brass nuts that I want to replace the plastic ones with and get either a true die that matches the threads of the brass nuts I find or use a steel nut with the same threads since the steel is harder than whatever material the posts are made out of?

Thanks,
Wes

Wes, It's kinda hard to tell what the problem is. Is it that you're missing some of the nuts? If so, contact Parasound, I'm sure they would sell you some.

Those cheap mass produced posts stink. They are designed so the plastic
knobs stop short of threading all the way off, which of course make it
impossible to thread in new ones. You could just run bananas for all the speaker connections,
since the posts are still ok.
Have you popped the top to check if the insides are threaded, soldered,
or those stupid molded custom ones?

I didn't really want to get new cables with bananas as I'm bi-wiring with AQ Granite on the top and Bedrock on the bottom, spades on each end.

When I postsed pics in ****/guts thread I looked closely and I think they are bolted to a rail/board. My concern going that route is that all the nice posts seem to be quite a bit bigger around and I don't know i fI can drill out the holes and not lose too much material.

Are the ends reterminatable? I know AQ CV-6 cables are easy to change ends on. All I needed were allen wrenches and new AQ ends.
If the posts bolt in, shouldn't be hard to replace them if you can get
stock posts. It comes down to what's easy and/or cheap. The minute
you start paying for tech time, it gets pricey. Good luck!

The ends are crimped hard on the line, as we might say at work. I would need a total re-termination job.

I guess I'll see what it takes to get to where the posts bolt up.

Agreed, that would be the best why to fix it. And in the end look original, which is a plus IMO.

Well, I took apart the amp in a little bit more detail this evening. I was hopng to possible cut some new threads, but that wasn't gonna work. I was able to find out that I can get to the backside of the posts without havcing to breakdown the amp in sections. I can unscrew one board and get in!

So now I have to find some compatible posts. I think Parts Connection has something very similar to the factory posts, but I'd like to upgrade them id possible. I'm gonna call Welborn Labs tomorrow maybe and see what that have to say.
