I am planning on buying a cd player that has HDCD compatibility. The Denon DCM 390. I am only going to be using the analog connections to hook up the cd player to my stereo 2 ch. receiver.(The red and whites). Will I still be able to obtain the HDCD format from the cd player?

Yes, but the DACs in the player will be converting the digital signal to analog

Is that good or bad? I am not losing out on anything using analog connections right?

Yes, you are doing the right thing if the DAC in the CD player is what you prefer to use. (which will get you the HDCD decoding) Just use decent interconnects and not the free ones that come with CD players.
