I have been looking at speakers for a LONG time, and finally decided to walk over to our tv department at ccity. I was almost sold on ascend acoustics cmt-340s when i got a look at the monitor 70. We had em hooked up to some mid-range onkyo which was stuggling to keep up (it was maxed at +15dB), but I could hear the potential that the polk floorstanding range could provide. I probably wouldnt have bitten on this deal, but the accomodation site showed a very attractive price for this speaker. Unfortunately I did something silly... I scrolled down too far and saw the RTi series. The second i saw the speaker I knew it was over.

Long story short, i just ordered the RTi12's, CSi5, and FXi5. I just dropped the hammer <5 minutes ago and im already getting anxious. This would be my first TRUE ht setup, so I hope my expectations are going to be fulfilled.

On a more "advanced technical" note, I currently have an onkyo txnr901 and am looking for some moderately cheap candidates for bi-amping of the r12's.

Yep, Bob be rocking the house now. Congrats on your purchase. As for bi-amping,if you want to keep with the Onkyo sound you can get a m-282 (Club Onkyo for about $190 shipped)and use this for the top end ,then your 901 for the woofers.Hey , you said cheap option for bi-amping right:) Anyways enjoy your speakers and have a great day.

    Welcome to the forum!

IIRC, the RTi12's are power hungry.

Cheap new I'd think your best bet would be using your Onkyo as a pre pro (if it has pre outs) and outlaw audio (LINK)for separate amplification.

If you want to go used you can find high power Carver, Parasound, Rotel, or Adcom amplification on eBay or Audiogon. There are other brands out there - this is just off the top of my head ;)

    Good luck! :)

Interesting... I didnt think the 901 had enough power to drive the low end of the rti's properly. Ill have to look into that 282.

More is better:D .One thing you want to check tho if you are gonna use your receiver in a bi-amp situation is that some AVR`s turn off power to the speaker (out) when the pre-out`s are utilized. The 282 is a suggestion for a cheap bi-amp that will give ya an idea of the speakers potential.A couple of years ago I called POLK and asked about bi-amping these and was told they could take 150 watts to the top and 500 watts to the woofers. These were the max.Yes it adds up to more than stated max input on manual.By the way,I am using a 282 for the top end with an ATI 250 watt amp for the woofer`s:D They ROCK

I just got my RTi12's in this morning through accommodations. I work at the CCity in Oklahoma City. Once I get home and tune everything up I will post a review. I will be running a Denon AVR-887 on them and soon Monoblocking them with Outlaws. Cant beat $361 ea. for some RTi12's though. And if your in the market for a sub....You can definitly get a great sub through SVS in that price range.

    Bob,

I have just about that exact setup with an SVS sub tagging along. BTW, my sound opened up once I attached a large amp. I do not bi-amp, could not convince myself that it would help anything.
