Working Amp Plate for RT2000i Wanted

The amp in one of my RT2000i's seems to have failed. Checked the fuse and it's good, so I am looking for a new one. Polk supposedly still offers them but they have yet to respond to my email to them. I'd imagine it's pretty pricey too.

So, have one you don't want?

    Is this the same amp as in the PSW1200? Or is that the the RT2000p? Or am I clueless?

    Well, I am nigh upon yielding my amps from my PSW1200's, and I think that is the same amp in one of them big ol' powered towers.

    I am not sure if it is the same as the PSW or not.

    I did email Polk CS about my problem and they recommend sending it in for evaluation and/or repair/replacement.

    A Replacement (RF2040-1) is $340 + s/h. Ouch!

    Well.... Here is an idea: Measure the dimensions of the plate and get back to me. The amp on the PSW is either 225 or 250 watts RMS at 8 Ohms, and is extremely adjustable. It can be run with either speaker level or line level inputs, too. So I imagine that if it fits the hole in your cabinet, it would suit your needs perfectly. If you want a matching pair in both your speakers, I can sell you a pair of them.

    They are 8-1/16" wide and 8-7/8" tall. I am wondering if a strictly Sub plate would work though. My unpowered uppers go through the same binding posts as the powered lower drivers. Maybe there is a place on the back of the PSW's plate to do the same?

    No cookie. The PSW-1200 amp is about 8-1/4 x 14-3/8". As far as your question regarding the connection, yes, it would work. The sub amps have speaker-level inputs (you attach the speaker wire to these) and hi-pass filters on these. The psw-650 amp, which is smaller, has a filter at 80 Hz. You can check the specs on all the discontinued subs here: http://www.polkaudio.com/search/older.php

    Actually, looking at the specs on the RT2000i, I'd bet you dollars to danishes that it uses the same amp at the PSW 250. I'd say so with 90% certainty. If the plate measures the same (which the specs don't give) the MOST you would have to do is a very small amount of soldering to make it work. Those 250's are giveaway subs, and I bet you could find one for next to nothing.

    And, as an extra bonus if you act now, I would also bet that the 8" driver in the PSW 250 is the same driver found in the RT2000i. Start stocking up on those itty bitty, and almost free subs, and you'll never be without.

    While I agree with you that the power output looks to be the same, I am still not sure on the hookups. I know the PSW's have speaker and pre-amp ins but it is the insides that has me wondering. In other words, does it have the ability to bypass the amp on the insides. I hook up the RT2000i's with speaker level as that is all the RT2000i's have. So it takes those inputs and splits them inside. It then strips the power and takes the bare signal, amplifies it and passes to the subs, but it also passes the speaker-level straight to the upper drivers. I don't think a PSW amp would have this capability unless I did some soldering like you say.

    Anyways, anyone have a 250 they could measure the Plate. Even better, take a pic of outside and in! :o

    The amp has a hi-pass filter combined with the speaker level inputs. That was so you could run speaker outputs to it, and then run from it to the main speakers, with the low freq's removed. To hook it up, you would just wire from the inside of the external leads instead of the outside.

    Yeah, I've been looking at these since I have a favorite search for "Polk Amp" on EBay but I am just not too sure on the Wattage. I think they will overpower the two little 8's in the 2000's. That and he doesn't list the sizes of the plates that I can tell. And this one specifically is "optimized for 2 ohms." I believe the 8's in mine are probably 8 ohms, but may be wired parallel for 4.

    Ahhhh, right. I did not think about the speaker level outputs of the sub amps! Good Thinkin'! So anyone have the specs on a 250's plate?

    The amp on the PSW202 has the same power specs. There are both a 202 and 250 on ebay right now with about 8 hours left. I have just asked both sellers for precise dims on the plates. I'll post again when I get a response.

    Here is the answer from someone with a 250:
    8.75 horizontal. 6.75 vertical
    10 screws total. 4 across the top & bottom & 3 down the sides.

    The guy with the 202 does not know what a plate amplifier is. Jesus. So I explained it to him.

    Yeah, the guy with the 250 says its 7x9. The pic shows 10 screws like mine but the plate seems to be the wrong size. I guess sending it in is my best bet now. Hate to be without them though.

    Well, the 202 amp may still pan out. You could always look at using an outboard amp and crossover. Just replace the plate amp with some 3/4" mdf and a gasket. Use some drive-through binding posts, and bang, you're on your way. You could get an Adcom GFA-535 for about $100, and a 2-way stereo dbx external x-over for about 50 or 60, and then you could sell the plate amp in the other tower. Net expense: $50, and you've got much better sound. Easy cheesy.

    I have two pairs of the RT2000i's and love them, but am out of places to pu the second pair. I am thinking about parting out the second pair putting one of everything in the box as a safety net in case something ever breaks. If anyone is in need of parts to get their towers back to a 100% contact me at markmiller639@msn.com.

    I Know this thread is OLD and just got resurrected, and it looks like "slimjr" might have you covered, but if you are still looking for the specs for a PSW250, I have one of those "throw away" subs...lol

    Be glad to pull it out and take measurements and pics.
