Is it possible to use a preamp with an intergrated amp? If so, what will I lose or gain. Thanks, Chuck.

I don't think you should, since the output from the preamp will add its gain, and the inputs of the integrated do not expect that ;)

I guess I have to ask the question why you want to do this? Is the integrated not cutting it, does it have issues? Or do you think you might get better sound hooking the pre-amp up. As has been said, not a good idea and you certainly wont gain anything, probably hinder the sound if it's even possible to hook it up thru the integrated.

Now if you have a processing loop in the integrated and the pre-amp has some sort of HT processing then it might work with good results.

if there are jumpers on the back of the integrated to separate the preamp and power amp sections you can use an outboard preamp with the power amp section of the integrated or use the integrated as a preamp with an outboard power amp. after doing some research on your amp, go another route.

That would seem redundant unless you are not happy w/ the onboard preamp. I confess I have done the same thing in the past experimenting and usually ended up getting rid of the Intergrated amp. I like straight up power amps w/ a good quality preamp. There are many very good Intergrated amps out there though

Old Onkyo Integra's are great choices when you can find them
