I think you can do better if you look for refurbished or used. For example, here's a 2307ci for $479.99 with full waranty:

No such thing as a good equalizer"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. I'm hardcore, no tone controls and no eq. Eq's add unwanted noise and they rarely have enough control over frequencies to make any sort of noticeable difference. The freq they cover is much to broad as well as the attenuation.
Room treatments and proper set-up will get you farther as will a better source, etc. With HT you might be able to use the eq functions for movies and calibration of channels, but for 2-ch music an EQ is nothing more than a noisy do nothing box.
IMHO, of course"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. snaps trump buttons, man I have a story to tell you about bush snaps.
EQ's are not my thing, but heck, knock yourself out, it may help develop your ear a bit as you play around with different settings.

I have the tone controls defeated on my pre-amp but do run a BFD (12 band parametric eq) on my sub. It made a world of difference in my room. This is more for HT than 2-channel, but well worth the effort if you have a bass challenged room.

After reading this thread and finding out about secondact.com, I am considering the 1907 for $299 and the 2106 for $329.
How much of a difference will the extra 15 watts on the 2106 make?
I am also considering the RTi A1 when is comes out in May and will be bi-amping it. I know the 1907 can bi-amp, but can the 2106 bi-amp?
Which one should I get? -

being a owner of a 1907 i will say this. I had it on Plus 3 today on the db read out and it pounded the living hell out of my monitor 70's, sounded great loud, clear, no break up. What i love is the analog mode the bypasses the digital signaling, i love this for true 2 channel stereo sound. The 1907 will allow u to externally amp every channel it has preouts for all 7 channels. so amping is no problem, hell u could bi amp every dam speaker if you wanted. id say go with the 1907 and u wont be going wrong, I love my setup, I have 2 monitor 70s a velodyne dps 12 two nak tape decks, and a sony dvd/cd changer 5 disc. upconverting, progressive scan. oh yeah i have a yamaha natural sound 10 band eq for 2 channel listening. all run through a monster power line conditioning surge protecter.John Tyler Birch
