My Visit to Mecca....

WEll, the lovely and ULTRA-tolerant Wendi (who is now CONVINCED that I am the uber-geek) made our pilgramage to Polk Audio yesterday.
Man, what a treat! After figuring out which door to enter (the big one in front, dumbass) we were met by Micah, our most gracious and accomodating host. We were given the grand tour of the coporate inner sanctum of Polk....got a COOL car audio demo. The lovely Wendi is now demanding a Polk system in the Infiniti (right after I bag some LSi's) got to check out some works in progress, that kinda thing. Don't let MC kid you, he works in probably the coolest place on the planet. We also got to meet some really cool folks, Paul, Al, Josh, Jason, Rob (and a whole host of others). Everyone was extremly nice and seemed genuinely glad to meet us.
THEN we got to the demo room. SWEET FANCY MOSES! Let me just cut to the chase and tell you, go buy LSi's NOW! Charge 'em, steal 'em, do what ever, but get 'em. MadMax pretty much gave you all the layout so I'm not going to rehash it but the LSi's are amazing. I was even impressed by the LSi25 but wouldn't buy it as I think that the powered sub actually lessens the experience. The ring radiator tweeter is nothing short of amazing. I'll post more on my impressions of the LSi's later though. Anyway, we spent about an hr in the demo room and I drooled the whole time.
Wendi enjoyed the visit as much as I did but felt bad about taking up so much of MC's time (she is a workaholic, what can I say). I do feel like a shitheel for going emptyhanded, I had some Dixie I was bringing for MC but got desparate last weekend and couldn't find any more before I left. I'll make it up to him though.
Anyway, after the demo, we departed and completed our journey to Maine (another story).
I would just like to say a HUGE thanks to Micah and Paul and everyone else at Polk for the hospitality, it was a huge thrill for Wendi and myself. Lastly, how cool is that though? What other product do you own that you can go to the corporate office and get the red carpet treatment? Another reason that I am such a big fan of Polk Audio. Thanks guys!!
Back to vacation!

Live at 9..reported by BDT.............
like the Lsi's I see.....you didn't care for the 25?Did you get to hear them compared to the 15's?
Glad to hear you got to tour the Polk building.
I'll be waiting to read your more detailed review on the Lsi's.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -

Probably not as much as some others, but g'head, I'm sure someone could answer it...

"Red Carpet Treatment" Exactly! That is a good way to explain my trip to Polk as well. The people are the nicest. The most important person who ever visited Polk could not have been treated any better. Like a king!
Those LSi's are great. Seamless integration between the channels and a great sound. I can't imagine beating them for twice the price. Really the best deal around in my opinion. I have no need for another speaker system but since the trip I have been looking at the LSi's seriously. Maybe a dedicated theater.
madmaxVinyl, the final frontier...
Avantgarde horns, 300b tubes, thats the kinda crap I want... -
Hey, it was a complete pleasure meeting you guys and playing around in the demo room for a few hours. Work, my butt.
I apologize for not being able (or, better, not exactly knowing how to configure) to demo the LSi15s, which were standing right there probably all routed and ready to go... Assuming they were wired to one of those systems. I never even thought to ask until Troy and I were deep in demo mode. I personally would also have benefitted from A/Bing the 25s and with the 15s. I'm on the fence as to powered towers.
I am really glad you guys (and the redoubtable Wendi) enjoyed yourselves -- and I'm glad you caught all the a**holes here on such a good day (KIDDING, KIDDING, of course!).
Troy, you owe me a DIXIE!

Micah:
At some point down the road when i'm finished rebuilding the Mighty Red 347 Mustang, I want to put in a killer soundsystem with Polk at the heart of it.
Any chance, again down the road into next year, I could come out for a demo of the Polk vehicles to see and hear what they are like? The Circuit City demo rooms just don't cut it at all! I need to hear stuff in a car, not hanging on a wall.

Great, here it comes!
Hey, if you're around, call me with some notice (coupla days at least) and I'll make sure I'm here. John, you're right here in town aren't you? Call me sometime. It all depends also on what cars they're working on in the install bays but I'm sure they could show you something.
I don't want to turn this into a "destination," but if you know you're going to be in the area and you want to stop by, you have to at least give me some notice.
I love meeting Polk people. Paul doesn't, but I do.

Yep, that would be me. The good old Balti-moron himself. Probably a 25-30 minute drive to the promised land!
My budget right now is stretched to the max with all the engine performance upgrades being done, so it'll be atleast into spring of next year before I can realistically think about a full audio system for the RED 347 Stang. When I do put a system in, I want to make sure it stands up with all of the other performance mods I'm doing now. I SHALL SETTLE FOR NOTHING BUT THE BEST!
I'll definitely give you some advanced warning and schedule a day/time to come in. I need to hear stuff in a vehicle, not on a wall. Also would be cool to get the techs to recommend a setup for my vehicle.
Thank the lord school is almost finished. I'll get back into the real work world and make some mad loot to support my drug habit (aka...Auto Performance and Polk Audio).
JohnNo excuses!
