Ok sad but I think the Samsung didn't follow HDMI spec's 100%. I say return the TV or if you can have the cable box fixed. On second thought does the Samsung TV work with any HDMI feed can the TV be a problem?

Samsung works with all other HDMI feeds no problem. At this point I am in the clear forever since I switched to DVR at Comcast's expense.

This doesn't just happen with Samsung TV's. According to Comcast over the phone and the Comcast tech that came to my house it's happening with Samsungs, Pioneers, Panasonics, and other brands all trying to utilize a DVI to HDMI connection via the non-DVR HD box.

For now the composite cables will work fine.

When you see the PQ difference the first time for SD and HD pictures between the two, you won't ever say that again. I can 99% promise you that. For me it was a total change. Everything was sharper overall.

There is absolutely no way Comcast can blame my TV, since the TV is years newer than the box.
While I would tend to disagree with this ... There's really no way to know ...

If the STB works with some HDMI v1.2 TV but not with some HDMI v1.3 TV then one would think the TV manufacturer did not implement v1.3 correctly as if it had been then there should not be a problem as v1.3 is a superset of v1.2 i.e. it should accomodate and be able to communicate with any device with an earlier standard.

I understand what you're saying. But it is happening with multiple manufacturers, not just Sammy. Also, you think since the STB is the host device and the TV is basically just an add-on that would have anything to do with it? Kinda like plugging a USB 2.0 device into a USB 1.0 host, it won't work if the device requires USB 2.0.

    I'm sure you're right ...

USB 2.0 devices work with USB 1.0 or 1.1 but not at 2.0 speed.

Understood, and thats kind of whats happening here. It works but it doesn't. You get a picture for 5 seconds, then flash, then a picture again for 5 seconds, etc..... Kind of a stretch of a metaphor but you get the idea.

At any rate, we could agree or disagree all day and all night, it still won't fix the problem(whatever it may be).

I wouldn't call 5 seconds working ... But you're right, discussion won't fix the prob ... In the case of the two particular components probably nothing will except to replace one ... I assume the most likely target for replacement is the STB ... The prob there of course is that Comcast is probably not likely to replace several million non TIVO boxes just because ... Eventually the older ones probably disappear through attrition ... theirs or yours ... :D
