*You keep asking "What will I hit with this setup" on message boards

*You don't cover your box with vinyl or carpet because you think
it will affect SPL.

*You go to shows with those super ugly BARE MDF enclosures with
exposed wires and screws. BONUS! Add 5 Ghettopoints if you feel
offended with this statement.

*You go to Audio Shops (Circuit City, Best Buy, etc) and you act smart because you think you know more than the sales guy

*You can't stand MTX and RF just because they sell them at Circuit City

*NEW* You despise MB Quart because they are now owned by RF

*NEW* You bump the hell out on stop lights because you think you're
"The "best'' and you like attention

* You think your prefab bandpass box sounds good

* You jump on brand bandwagons. (I smell Vifa mids... )

*You use lamp cords for power wires

*You have different subs in the SAME box

*You install neon lights on plain sight

You believe in the "Magic Three Upgrade" BS
*

*You think your car runs better with a Grounding Kit

*You drive a Civic (ok I'm just messin

*You ground your amp to the seat bolt

*You think that depeche mode is the only way to ge real bass

* If you use wire nuts for your connections

Just a little defense of the bare MDF boxes at SPL shows - these guys rebuild their boxes pretty much for every show so carpeting it would get tiresome and expensive.

And I think everybody knows more than CC and BB salesmen!! :D

In defense to grounding kits. I have first hand experience of a gain of 2 HP at the wheels from a grounding kit. Of course it was an older car.

I suppose it doesn't help audio at all though, but it does performance wise.

    Anyway.... may I add:

*You have taped your crossovers inside your door.

As some people suggested I do!

    and....

*You tell your friends how many watts (always just total/max), your system has.

    Oh wow!

First off, I must be dumb or out of it 'cause I never heard of the magic 3 upgrade before. Somebody enlighten me please?.

Now, I have my fuse holder in the engine bay secured with zip ties so I didn't have to drill holes. That's a benefit when the vehicle is 1 of 6,381 made in 2001 and 1 of 28,124 total in 6 years of production. They work fine and it makes it easy to get to the fuse holder because I can mount it almost anywhere.

My crossovers are secured to the inside of my door skins with velcro tape of the industrial variety. This was also done due to not needing to drill holes in a limited run vehicle. They have been mounted that way without a problem for over 5 years now. Of course the tape is on the back of the crossover and not covering connections or vent holes.

I have left several boxes unfinished. MDF looks like **** but if you are using plywood with a nice veneer, a little sanding, some stain and some polyurethane you have an elegant and durable finish. I've also left them bare wood too. If it's in the trunk of a daily driver, I'm not going to worry about looks as much because it'll get beat to hell with daily use anyway.

Lastly, a grounding kit will not increase power. There is nothing aside from having a bad coil(s) that a grounding kit will help fix in relation to engine power production and even at that, you won't "gain" power, you will merely recover lost power due to your failing ignition components. On top of that, dyno or not, a 2 horsepower gain is too easily attributable to environmental variables to be able to say a grounding kit added power. Get real.

    Ok...

As I said, of course this was an old car... over 10 years old... with time, grounding points begin to rust, etc. I'm sure we agree on this. So I agree that it was "recovered" power, but it was still an increase in power.

Now, on to the dyno... this was done JUST to test the new grounding cables...

So, car was in the dyno'd without them, then with...

    +2 whp.

    back to without,

back to with... again the +2whp.

    Hence why I mentioned it.

If anything, the longer that the car was running (obviously at max RPM"s), would make the engine bay hotter which would actually reduce power.

2 whp is not a significant amount of power anyway.... I was just defending it because they do work in older cars with poor grounding.

I did not mention the headlights and dash turning brighter, as that is pretty subjective and one could notice it simply by believing it.

    Anyway...

May I ask what vehicle do you have? Those are certainly low numbers, but nothing TOO exotic. Just curious.

Ah, I see. I never really considered those "upgrades" 'cause that's something I've always checked when installing the system in the first place. Not trying to sound arrogant or anything, just something I do.
