No Sound From Surround Speakers

Hello, I just got a new pioneer 816 reciever and monitor 50's for front and R15's for surround. I hooked it up useing the automatic setup that is fetured in this particular pioneer system. I heard sound from all four speakers and it seamed to work fine. But when I hooked up my Xbox 360 and started playing a game I realized that there was no sound coming from my 2 surround speakers. If anyone has any idea as to why this might be please tell me. Thank you.

First, if your 360 is not setup for 5.1, then the receiver may not process that. (I have no experience with X-Boxes) I would set your receiver to your DVD player and play a disc with 5.1 test tracks. (Either a demo disc, or a lot of newer THX certified movies include the THX Optimizer; Incredible, Indiana Jones, etc.) If that is not an option just play a regular DVD and use your receivers manual to calibrate the receiver for full decoding. Assuming the 360's can process 5.1 sound, hook your 360 into the best input possible (optical, digital coaxial) and also make sure that when you change the input on your receiver from DVD to X-Box that you make sure that 5.1 decoding is also on.
