Differences between Monitor 5Jr & 5Jr+

I have a pair of Polk Audio Monitor 5Jr+’s that I’ve had for some time and after scanning eBay for bargains, I came across a single 5Jr that I thought I’d buy for spare parts. Well, I received the speaker today and needless to say, it was damaged in shipping. Luckily, It was well packed and the despite the abusive handling, the cabinet made it unscathed. But, as I was unpacking it, I noticed something rolling around inside the cabinet. After taking the passive radiator out of the cabinet, I discovered that FedEx had thrown this package so hard they knocked the coil off the crossover. Upon removal of the crossover, in order to repair it, I found a label which stated it was a crossover for a 5Jr+ but the label on the back of the cabinet states it’s a 5Jr. Now, my question is this. What is the difference between the 5Jr and the 5Jr+? Also, why did Polk use a 5Jr+ crossover in a 5Jr? I can see no difference between my original pair of 5Jr+’s and the single 5Jr I got from eBay.

The crossovers seam almost identical. The woofers were MW6502's in all M5's, and the tweets were changed around a bit. If its just your crossover that broke just resolder the inductor back on.

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

I have a pr. of full size 5s (larger passive radiator). The only thing on the crossover is the year 1987. It has the MW6502 woofers and SL2000 tweets. It's too bad about shipping damage. UPS is usually the destroyer for me. Let me know what yr yours are and would drivers you have....

According to the schematics, the only differences I can see is Polk went to a 13.5uF capacitor instead of a 12uF when they updated the tweeter from the SL2000 to the SL2500. Both the 5Jr and the 5Jr+ that I own, have the SL2500 tweeter. I’m assuming the difference between the two speakers is the tweeter, but they put the SL2500 in both speakers I own. I’m still confused. Could it be that the speaker is labeled wrong?

Ben, the crossover has already been repaired and sounds great. I soldered the leads of the inductor to the board and just taped it in place. Thanks for the link to the schematics.

I also own a pair of the bigger size Monitor 5b’s with the larger passive woofer. It features a MW6502 woofer and a SL2000 tweeter with a date of 1987 on the crossover. Both of my 5Jr’s have the MW6502 woofer and the SL2500 tweeters and both are marked 5Jr+ and 1990 on the crossover.

Unfortunately, I didn’t find any surprises inside the cabinets!
