Does the Denon have pre outs?
One thing I love about my HK is the pre out setup. One thing I hate is the remote.
check out this thread, its almost the same topic as yours.

Enjoy BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

I dont think that the Denon does that is why I am leaning towards the HK. Honestly I dont even know what the pre outs are used for. Can anyone help me out sorry. -
Pre outs provide unamplified output as opposed to the amplified output that goes to the speakers ...
This allows use of a separate amplifier which would reduce a receivers usage to that of a pre amp or pre/pro.
This has benefits in the upgrade process as it allows first adding an amp and later replacing the receiver with a pre amp as opposed to having to get both a pre amp and an amp simultaneously in order to replace the receiver. -

I got it. Thanks. . . Yeh I think I have made my decision. Does anyone have any suggestions on an amp for running the RTi10's. I wont be able to buy the amp now but sometime in the future. -
There are a zillion choices ...
Start with a budget ( Dollar Amount ) ... Do yourself a favor and think USED ... and start looking around on places like Audiogon to see what can be had at the price point you are looking at and then research those ...
If you made a face when I said used then consider the fact that gear like amps can be bought relatively inexpense compared to new prices and will be worth the same as what you paid for it for several years ... What this means is that when you have upgraditis later ... The used amp will have cost you something between nothing and very little. -

And you will...:DI never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore -

i did put that into consideration but. I want a receiver with an HDMI input. I have been trying to find some used ones but no luck yet. The cheapest I found the AVR445 is $715.00 do you guys think that is a good price or I can find something better. -
I thought we were talking amps ?
I'm not sure why you care if the receiver or preamp has HDMI ... To me that's just another component to have to pass a video signal through ... -

The only reason im going to use the HDMI for is the PS3 and SAMSUNG HD DVD. So what do you recommend I do. Or should I just get a used AVR635 on ebay for much cheaper. Thanks for the information. -
Personally I hook up video sources direct to the TV ...

But isnt HDMI video and audio. I dont think I can hook up HDMI and optical at the same time. Is that possible. If it is then I will get the HK AVR635. if not then the AVR445. -
You can hook up HDMI to your TV and optical/coaxial digital audio to your receiver. The only reason for getting a receiver with HDMI (IMO) would be if you have more HDMI sources than inputs in your TV, and you want the receiver to make the switching._________________________________________________

PERFECT. . . I will go ahead and get the AVR635 from Harman's ebay site.

I think that the general consensus is that buying an AMP used is a very good idea. You can find good ones on ebay or audiogon for about 1/2 of retail, or even less.
However, with surround sound receivers, it seems most people always want the latest and greatest in features (such as HDMI), etc.Robert
