She has music in her sole.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

Okay, if she's so fantastic can someone please write a detailed review of one of her CDs, and include "go-to" demo tracks and why they sound good on your speakers? What acrobatics does she make your speakers do, and how does it sound? I need details people, details.

You gonna give credit where credit is due this time 'round?
I say eff it, go listen for yourself.

The Visit was my first Loreena McKennitt CD. Her music isn't available (or wasn't) through any clubs or anything. You have to go out to a shop and pay the dough.. usually not on sale, either, so expect $16-$18.
It isn't just her sultry smooth voice or any *particular* thing about her music... she blends instruments and styles that you probably wouldn't have thought mixed, but she does so in ways that work. I don't think you can characterize any entire CD with one label.. she is different song to song.
I love All Souls Night on The Visit... and the next song, Bonny Portmore.. is also great, but nothing like All Souls Night. The sort of "flat" version of Greensleeves is interesting, too.. lots of guitar.
I think Mummer's Dance (off of Book of Secrets) is my most favorite song of hers (it was released as a single, but in a slightly different version.. the CD version is better).
CHeck here for music files:

Not great quality..
Sorry... she just doesn't strike me as speaker-test music.. you're too busy listening to the music to think about the physics of the speakers....
I have Mummer's Dance and a couple of others in MP3 I snagged off Napster last year (before I had access to a burner). I could try to get it to you if you want.. or check Gnucleus -
I have to agree with Russ on this on,
you need to go listen for yourself. She is an emotional singer.Lots of passion goes into every song she sings. If you wanted to classify her I'd say she is Celtic. She is from Canada.Irish I believe she is.
She started out as a folk singer.
With any fine art,Loreena's technique is translucent. To experience her music is simply sensual.
If a angel had a voice...hers it would be.As I read up top,it is hard to listen to the speakers or demo them with her music...you loose yourself in her music and your listening to the speakers go out the window.
I can however listen to the speakers as I know 3 of her Albums very well. Here's what I have.....
BOOK OF SECRETS
THE VISIT
THE MASK AND MIRROR
Not one is better then the other, and I don't have a favorite cd or song....I like them all.
For all who is interested,go buy one or all of her cd's..you won't go wrong.
