2 Plots, neither of which were ever developed or explained

One about political BS with the bush adminstration even though the movie was supposed to be in Great Britain. Throughout the movie they focus on deporting illegal immigrants even though it has NOTHING to do with the plot.

One about how for 18 years all women suffered from infertility. They never explained how, why, or what caused it. All of a sudden a random "illegal alien" gets pregnant out of no where, doesn't know the father, and she wants to name the baby "Bazooka"(how original!).

The end of the movie.....well...ya...it literally just ended with ZERO explanation of what happened to the baby. Everyone in the theater laughed.

Basically, people in the theater laughed throughout the movie at how bogus it was and everyone on the whole was disappointed.

The movie was a terrible failure by the director to blame America(Bush) for the all the worlds problems. His plots made no sense. And on a side note, the PQ and SQ of the movie were awful. Things were very hard to hear and see in parts.

Bottom Line: Movie Sucked.

Save your $10 and wait for it on HBO/Netflix

No reason to see it now I guess...although Rotten Tomatoes has it at 93%.

Ya not only do I want my $10 back, I want my 1h49m back of my life I wasted :mad:

This is just myself and the other couple hundred peoples experience with the movie, I'm sure some may like it. My theater made a mockery out of the film and laughed/clapped during the entire showing after the first 10 minutes when they realized the film was rediculous.

All I've heard is....for those going into this movie expecting a high-tech, futuristic, sci-fi flick, along the lines of a "Matrix", "Aeon Flux", or "Riddick" type movie, you'll will be very disappointed. While it has SOME visually stimulating scenes, it's not meant to be that type of movie.

That's what I keep hearing and reading about this movie. I'll wait for the dvd to judge it myself.

Well that blows. I heard ads for this movie on the radio and was planning to go. Thanks for the review, I'll wait for it on TV.

IMDb says this movie takes place in 2027. How could the Bush administration possibly be involved? Did HIS son get elected too?

If my math serves me correct, 2027-18(how many years women have been infertile) is 2009ish......relatively close to the bush adminstration. They blame him for the cause of the problem. They also blame him for "the worldwide downfall" as they put it in the movie.

anyone going into this with a Matrix idea needs to be slapped. NOTHING about the trailer gives me a sci-fi feeling. I wanna see it but I'll wait for DVD.

Went and saw this movie today. And really...wow, I dont know what the issue was. This movie was really really good. It dosent come across as a "futuristic" movie. Yes it may be in the future but it seems like a logical future in the sets and whatnot.

Hard to describe the entire thing, I guess its just something you would need to see yourself, but the feeling of ugency in the film kept my eyes glued to the screen the entire time.

Great film.

Just curious, not trying to be negative but what part(s) did you find were done well?

Despite the fact I hate bringing politics into anything, it actually matters largely for your opinion on this movie. Are you more R or D?

I agree..I thought it was good..I like sci-fi dark and this one was definaly dark and bleak
I do find it funny that people will not go see it based on one bad review on here..
oh well..there is a reason crap sequels like Rocky Balboa makes money

Some people liked it, some people didn't. I just made the post claiming that no one in my theater that I noticed liked it.

If you think it looks good then I encourage you to go see it and form your own opinion.

I really didnt mind the politics part of the movie. It was part of the story and didnt really overwhelm any one part for me.

As for which way I swing. I'd say Im an intermediate. Both sides have good points and both sides have really awful points. I guess Im not really an aggressive person when it comes to politics.

I believe the actual book its based on ( written by PD James) pre dates Bush and any of this anti immigration stuff that going on..
In any event I didnt let the politics or my syance on illegal aliens get in the way of enjoying the movie
a lot of sci fi has liberal political themes but i still enjoy reading and watching it
i find the constant stream of remakes and senseless sequels more bothersome and am glad to see studios take a chance on films like Children of Men that are not a guaranteed blockbuster

If that is the case, what is with the pictures and newspaper clippings all through the movie of "bush adminstration this" and "bush adminstration that" and "because of the bush adminstration...."

You didn't see those pictures everywhere?

So if it is supposed to be pre-bush it should have stayed that way.....not added little extra potshots in for **** and giggles.

I didn't read the book so I cannot comment on it. However based on what you said though it seems that they changed the storyline a bit....quite a bit.

Saw this yesterday, thought it was brilliant. From a technical standpoint, it is without contemporary peer...long, complex, extended takes...relentless, tense, real 'you are there' feel. Battle scenes that haven't been seen since Saving Private Ryan. It gets compared to Blade Runner a lot, and while there is SOME similarity, I felt it was more along the lines of V For Vendetta (although far, FAR superior to that overbaked snore) and 12 Monkeys.

It is very 'British' (obviously), so if you are used to Hollywood hand-holding plotlines you might be taken aback (why people are infertile is irrelevent to the plotline...it is a framing device). The ending, in particular, was more of the 'symbolic' variety as opposed to the 'wrapped up in a tidy package' variety, which is more a matter of taste/style than anything else.

Simply watch it, and make up your own mind. Deserves several awards.

Blindly calling any movie "without contemporary peer" and then saying V for Vendetta was an "overbaked snore" automatically throws up some big flags for me, sorry....

My opinion of course (as everyone else has shared in this thread). Would you care to offer some counterpoints on the technical aspect? And V For Vendetta (again, my opinion) tried way to hard to 'BE' something and lost its own footing in the process. They share the dystopian/totalitarian future (and in England), but I felt CoM made a much greater connection on a personal level.

Watched the HD-DVD last night, although I didn't really care for the storyline, I loved the way it was made, one second your walking down the sidewalk and the next the side of a building is blowing out on top of you, all the action really sneeks up on you, and there was alot of action in this movie alot more than I expected. I really didn't find any thing that special about it. In my opinion I would have to say a rental.

Because a 1 would constitute there was something I liked.

I didn't care for it either, the story was just so boring. It did start promising but in the end it was all mindless action. I like action but I'd prefer it with an actual story.

Just watched this movie. Aaahhh, it was OK. It's a very dark movie. We had a difficult time understanding some of the dialogue due to the strong British accents. The plot didn't seem to be well thought out and the ending simply ended. Hell, we made up our own ending. My wife understood the infertility aspect of the story in ways I didn't see. On the bright side, the kaboom factor was cool.

Bottom line -- if you don't see this movie, you ain't missin' anything.
