I just saw this last night and I loved it. Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy stole the show! I can't believe how talented Jennifer is. I saw her when she was on American Idol but it did not reveal the amount of talent she has.
Ever since 'Party all the Time' I have been convinced that Eddie just can't sing but he knocks it out of the park. Beyonce also has one terrific solo that is just amazing.
Overall a terrific transition from stage to film and I will be first in line to buy this one.

Even though watching a Broadway musical on screen is probably as enjoyable as getting an **** with a broomstick, I'll check this one out when it comes to DVD. I just wanna hear Jennifer Hudson sing the main song, "And I Am Telling You..." I know she can't possibly sound better than the original sung by Jennifer Holliday, but I'm sure she can do it justice. Only a few great singers can even attempt it because the song requires tremendous power, broad range, and gut-wrenching passion.

She definitely has the gut wrenching passion down although my roommate found it to be too much yelling. I can see that but it was definitely pure emotion and gave me goosebumps.

You might change your mind once you hear her sing 'Listen' in this film. I didn't think she was much of a singer either but it's terrific...much better than I expected. Jennifer still blows everyone away though....except maybe Eddie...believe it or not.

True, Beyonce is just an average singer, but I think she's great for this role because in the original Dreamgirls, her character wasn't the strongest singer. Dreamgirls is supposed to be loosely based on the Supremes, and Beyonce represents Diana Ross, also not the greatest singer of the group, but she was propelled up front due to her looks, charm, and relationship with Berry Gordy.

I think it was solely her relationship with Berry Gordy that lead to her fronting the Supremes. I don't think her "looks" helped a lot. Without the 50 lb weave and makeup she looks a mess. As for charm, well...the reports I've read from law enforcement agencies, ex-husbands, and ex-Supremes indicate that she is not a very nice person.

Well, we're talkin' over 40 years ago -- before the drugs, husbands, diva attitude, and other trappings of fame...
