Ok. The experiment is on. I am also doing some A/B (not blind)with the Shunyata Guardian and the Duet with my Earthquake Cinenova with a Tori Amos CD (love her).
    First impressions:

The Shunyata sounds terrific and the voice is palpable with a convincing soundtage.

...The Duet does as well but seems a bit crisper maybe not as warm a... bit more crisp.

Ok ...I am surprised that I am saying this but after extended comparison I actually prefer the Shunyata. At first listen, the Duet sounds airier but the Shunyata has more weight to the instruments and vocals that I prefer. Both sound rather lifelike but the Shunyata is more so. I will admit to being wrong and it pays to really listen and not be knee jerk about it. Not to mention....

THE DUET IS STILL CUTTING OFF!

Well what can I say? There is a definite difference. I am trying out a second power cartridge they sent. So far so good as far as staying on.

    Darla,

If you willing to try something I suspect that the Duet as an issue with your amp current ac draw. I would plug in a light 60 watt or so to see if you can detect any flickering of the light. Try this on both and I think the Duet will be more pronounced with the light flickering than the other.

I'm interested to hear more of your impressions Wingnut. I'm using the UPC-200's with very good results. Never tried the Shunyata power conditioners (I am using one of their power cords, however).

btw, a fellow VSA owner. Nice!

    Yes, I love my Von's!:)

I have to say that the sound with the Shunyatas is a bit more robust. The instruments have more delineation and weight while the Duet is definitely nice as well but has an airier quality but a great soundstage also. I think it would be a toss up to personal preference and at first I thought the Duet would win out but I gotta say I prefer the Shunyata. These are subtle differences though.

Glad to hear you found a solution with the Shunyata.

Don't mean to hijack, but I just checked your pics (beautiful setup!) and noticed your VR4jr's are spread wide apart. How far apart are they? I note the VSA manual recommends a big spread, I think 12 feet or more, but I haven't played around with mine that much yet and keep them at about 8-10 feet apart (due to room aesthetics). Any placement recommendations? Again, don't mean to hijack this thread, so shoot me a PM if you'd like.

    Thanks.
