Best movies for 5.1 listening?

About a month ago I upgraded from a ProLogic surround system (not II) to a 5.1 surround system. I'm curious about which movies are "out there" that really puts 5.1 "through it's paces".

I have 729 DVD movies (all bought from stores) so any you may suggest I might have. Any recommendations will be appreciated.

So far I've come up with Underworld, Fast and the Furious, Jurassic Park III.

729 movies and you just got Dolby Digital 5.1.
Well when i went to DVD 5.1 over ten years ago - i would say "every movie".
No really, my jaw hit the ground as soon as i pluged my first optic cable in.

    Dude,

Every DD movie made, will blow the pro logic outta the water. I was so overwhelmed when I finally got my digital going that moved me into the Dolby Digital and dts world. It was a night and day difference.

All the Matrix's are a MUST see again, as are the dts-ES 6.1 LOTR trilogies. Those will take your breath away.

I loved the Underworld's, as I did the Resident Evil's. Both of those made your chest thump. Silent Hill was pretty sweet on the HT as well.

Just pop in a vid, and start watching.

Oh ya, if you ever get tired of some of your DVD's just send them my way ;) I've barely got a 100, if that!

I've been thinking about watching WOW again and just watched MI:3 last week. I'll put Swordfish on my list to watch again (loved that movie).

I, Robot had a good sound mix, I thought. Especially the "You are having an accident" car crash scene in the tunnel.

Do a search, there's a few older threads about this out there.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

5.1 ='s three months ago. Not every movie is "5.1 intensive" though. My jaw hit the ground before I received my optical cable!

My son told me I'd probably be watching a lot of movies over again of which most of them I saw in the "PL days" and he was right. I forgot to mention ID4 which was the first one I watched.

Agreed on the ProLogic thing! Watched the Matrix series and the LOTR trilogy also and should have included them to my "watched" list.

Looks like I'll be adding Resident Evil (both) and Silent Hill to my list.

I have so REAL SUCKY (and I do mean SUCKY!) ones, what those? Jack Frost comes to mind... ;)

I'll add Saving Private Ryan and The Haunting to my list. Master and Commander...isn't that the one where Russell Crowe is the captain of a ship?

If you turn any action movie up loud enough, it'll sound pretty good. . .

When I need a quick fix, I will occassionally pop in any Bond movie and watch the opening scene. Always great action, guns blazing, explosions, etc. in the first 5 minutes.

I listened to the opening of Superman Returns at high volume when I rented it; that song sounded awesome and my sub was going crazy at -20 on the AVR 635. I watched it about 4 times in a row.

What is Independence Day like (where aliens blow up White House, etc.)? Don't own it and don't plan to buy it. Just remember for Pro Logic it was impressive to hear, didn't know if Digitial kicked it up a notch.

I am in the camp of DD listeners (if there is such a camp) that prefers a solid DD mix without all the noise...There are soundtracks out there that have exquisite mixes that you might not usually consider...quiet mixes yet done with exceptional artistry.
Winged Migration I feel has an amazing soundtrack, sounds like all enviornmental sounds, no constant loud bangs but you are enveloped.
House of Flying Daggers probably the best DD mix ever
    and the list goes on...
When I had a laserdisc by the name of Microcosmos (same guy that made Winged Migration) it was in DD and the mix is perhaps one of the best I have ever heard. I was dissapointed when the dvd was released that it was pro logic only buut you have a LD set up that disc is a must have.

Darkness Falls has the best 5.1 soundtrack bar none...........average movie plot, but the extensive use of panning and placement of surround sounds is still the best on disc 3 years after its release.
