Large open room setup

I'm looking for some insight on how to set up the RM6800 speakers in a large (24x18) open (22 foot ceiling) room. Music sounds great, but I'm having trouble hearing voices in movies and shows. Bass is OK if I have the sub in the middle of the room setting on carpet (the room has hardwood floor) I'm using the Onkyo TX-SR603X receiver. Any suggestions on speaker placement - low, high, on spands, etc. Thanks!
