New polk fan found these boards

Hello everyone,

just thought I'd start off short and say hi. I'm a long standing fan of music listening in general and Polk's in particular. My own modest set is a pair of RTA 15Tl, powered by a modified Holfi Aura, which I hold dear. Of course I'm ever wishful of finding a set of SDA 1.2 or 2.3 some day, but in these parts of the world I might as well be looking for oil in my backyard. If anyone has any tips on how to procure a pair (heck i'd probably drive straight across europe and collect if i could get a pair) I'd be grateful. :)

My neck of the woods is a small town in Sweden, aka the frozen north (except when it is rainy-foggy-soggy season), not sure how international oriented this board is, but it's the only place of its kind I've seen.

I have interests in modifications, have done some work on amplifiers, switched components in my crossovers, and am looking forward to taking part in discussions here and receiving suggestions for what I can do with my equipment. From what little I've been browsing here so far, this seems to be a goldmine of information and nice people.

Well met,
Bjorn

    Hey Bjorn -

    Welcome!

You WILL find TONS of information here - and not just on Polks. There are several members that have great technical knowledge, be it electronic or wood working or even arcane information about the US tax code!

    Stick around and enjoy.

    Cheers!

Welcome, and good luck on your search for SDA's; I'm sure you'll find some in Europe (just stay away from a pair in the UK that shows once in a while on ebay.....scam).

Nothing modest about the 15TL's, they were Polk's best conventional speaker. I have a set of 11Ts that I greatly enjoy.

    Welcome to the club.

Greetings from the west! With any luck you'll grab yourself a nice pair of SDA's to hold you over to the end of your days!

But don't for a second think your pair of RTA's is modest... There are many listeners out there that would love your setup.

What modifications were done to your Holfi Aura?

Welcome to the Club, Bjorn. You like to do mods? I'd suggest tradiding the SL3000's in you 15TL's for the RD-0198's for starters...

Welcome Bjorn. I fully understand the frozen North concept living in Canada and in the North. Hope you hang around and I am sure you have a lot to offer.

Thanks all for the welcome :)

Ref, I've replaced volume pot with ALPS, top of the line 'blue', and changed resistors at the input stage (had an unfortunate short once which led to some smoke) to Dale/Vishay 1% film. Not sure to which change I'd attribute better sound, but sound definitely was a lot clearer post-mod, especially midrange.

On the tweeter replacement issue, how do I go about procuring RD-0198? Polk customer service?
