Tubes for Jolida CDP

At the moment my Jolida CDP isn't in a rack that is friendly to tube rolling. I have to tear down my equipment in the next month to move my entertainment center, and I wanted to try something different in the Jolida CDP while I have it out and accessible. I like a warm, detailed sound. The 12ax7 RCA clear-tops have been suggested on other forums. Any suggestions on tubes to try?

FYI - my speakers are Magnepan 1.6QR, Rogue Audio 66 pre, Parasound HCA-1500A power amps.

Are the EI 12ax7LPS the ones your are referencing?

EI Elite Gold Pins. The gold pins may or may not make a difference. Gold is a better conductor, in theory it should help.

I like the Ei Elite gold pins, 12AX7EG. Some others to try include Sovtek 12AX7LPS, Amperex Bugle Boys and RCA 5751 Triple Mica Black Plates.

BTW, upgrading the power cord makes a noticeable difference.

I have the Signal Cable digital magic power cable, and yes after it got broken in it made a difference  I have a lead on some RCA Command series triple mica black plates, and also some RCA clear tops. I have the Sovtek LPS already, and also have some of the EI gold pins that I forgot I ordered a while back from an Ebay seller. I'll give these a try and see how much improvement over the stock tubes I get. Thanks for the suggestions!

I have this player as well. I have never heard the stock tubes (although I have them) as it came with EH tubes as well. When I first heard it I was dissappointed. It sounded very closed off...lots of bass but kind of muddy. I then put some Sovtek's, WA version and it sounded alot better balanced with more top end. I later added a PS Audio statement cord and it further brought in more of the top end. With the cord as well it seemed to not have a 45 minute to an hour warm up time to sound good. It would sound good right from the start with only slight improvement after 5 or 10 minutes. I did pick up the Ei elite tubes (non gold pin) but never gave them a roll as I since replaced the player with a Consonance ref 2.2 tubed player.

Currently, I have the jolida player sitting in my entertainment unit doing nothing. I meant to try the EI elites but I never did because of interconnect length issues. One of these days I will get longer interconnects so that I can assess whether there is any benefit to keeping it or not. I thought that if they sounded different that one player may be better vs. the other on certain recordings.

It is ironic in that we all put this gear together to achieve a sound that we like, but the recording is probably the most important thing....which is out of our hands.

    just my .02 maybe less

    Good luck,

Got ambitious and put the EI Elite gold pin 12ax7EG tubes in tonight. Wow! Very nice improvement. Warm sound and a little more detail on the top end. Even my ears with high freq hearing loss can hear a distinct difference in the cymbals. A little lower gain than the stock tubes, and the sound stage moved back a little bit.

I don't really need the metal tube covers with springs in them do I? The EI tubes seemed to be a little taller and the spring loaded covers didn't seem to fit very well. I put a silicone tube damper ring on each tube.

Nah, ditch them tube covers. I think they are only there for shipping purposes (correct me if I'm wrong).
