I might be done with 360

Well, ever since the last update was released last week, I have been unable to connect to Live. So, no online for Shelby. And, as anyone who has a 360 knows, there is little point in having a 360 if you can't play on Live. Today was my first chance at contacting tech support. Basically they were worthless, had no concrete answer for my problem, couldn't fix it, and all they could do was recommend I go to a neighbor's house and download the update there. Lucky for them, it worked, but I am still pissed.

Next, I ask to extend my warranty. When I sent in my 360 for repairs, the woman helping me told me that my warranty would expire on 12/5/06. So, being the procrastinator I am, I waited until the day before. However, what that lady didn't tell me was, that that warranty was good for the 360 I was sending in, not the one I was getting back. The one I received was warrantied for 30 days. So, I got dicked out of my warranty. Repairs to my 360 will be paid by me. Now I am pretty pissed.

So, I just got done spending the last two hours dicking around with wires, discs and hardware. I go to download the lastest update for GRAW, and when I do, the disc won't read. I download the update for COD3, and I go to play multiplayer and the game freezes.

So, what it sums up to, I can't regularly play my 360 games the way I want to. This is unacceptable. I may be selling it soon.

hop in your car and drive over to Bill and Melinda's (Gates) house and tell them your 360 bites it. :p You'll either get another one.. or get arrested. Probably the latter.

Sorry Shelby... seems most consoles these days only last a year or two before they have problems. How is their tech repair service?

They were very polite and tried to be helpful. They were as good as you could want them to be. They just couldn't help me out in the end.

I've met Bill. My mother used to work for him. He won't mess with me. Nonetheless, his 360 is pissing me off.

Tech support and customer service for consumer electronics is virutally worthless. I have been TRYING to get some issues resolved with Motorola over a POS Razr. I have talked to half the country of India, 99% of whom can't understand me and I can't understand them. I have more case #s than the local traffic court. Long story is I will NEVER purchase another Motorola product.

I am having a similar issue with Dell. Seems they made a MP3 (Dell jukebox) with a rechargable battery that can't be replaced (or at least no one makes a replacement). My daughter has 20G of music on a machine that works perfectly fine (when plugged into the adapter). Great for a portable MP3 player. At least I am able to talk to CS techs that speak english reasonably well, even if they don't know what the hell they are talking about. I have been promised 3 times "I'll find out about that part and get back to you in 48 hours". I can clearly understand what they are saying....I just never hear from them.

Based on what is out there in the rest of the consumer electronics world the folks here at Polk should be given the CS equivalent of sainthood.

I always have to turn my 360 on twice. The first time I turn it on I get an "E85" error, or something like that. I have never tried Xbox Live. Maybe I need an update?

That sucks, man. I have never had one issue with mine, but I guess I better knock on wood.

I think if you write a letter and get it to the right location it could work wonders. Not saying it will, but it might make you feel better.

Ah, remmeber the days when you would just buy something, take it home and it worked. Todays electronics are too complicated for thier own good. I guess that is why I like simple things. Amps, plug then in and they work.

Too many firmware upgrades, patches and who the hell else knows. I was cosidering a 360 of PS3. I usually wait about 2 years to get the bugs back. I have spoken to a few guys at different electronics stores that the PS3 will be recalled soon and by March the price will be dropped. The new Toshiba 2nd generation HD player is also delayed for problems and the first one has problems. That does not bode well for the HD add on to the 360.

PS2 still works fine after 5 years. GTA here I come.

I shelled out $300 (or was it $399) for the original Sony Playstation and it lasted all of 2 months. Something about overheating issues causing some rubber part to melt.

Then I purchased the PS2 at launch and it at least had the courtesy to last 3months and change. Something about setting it up vertically effing with the transport. Stopped reading discs and the rest is history.

I have always pampered my electronics, so go figure.

I had issues with my Sega CD too, but whaddya expect?:D

Well, you have a hard drive.... you could pick up a used 360core unit for well under $300 and pop in your old hard drive.

I have had my 360 for about 4 months, and so far so good. I MAY get the PS3 this time next year to wait till all the bugs are worked out. I have always waited a long time for a new console, and have a 100% success rating so far. I may be a late bloomer, but I have had no problems.
Ps2, Xbox, and Xbox 360 have never failed, and the guy who I sold my Ps2 to is still playing it. I have never liked to fight the crowds and weather for a console anyway. Good luck Shelby, and buying the core system is a great idea. Do you think maybe it could be the Hard Drive? Try a friends hard drive, and see what happens. If it works, you could spend $100 instead of $300. May not be the HD, but its worth a try.

Oddly enough, thats exactly what I tried last night. I took of the HDD, kept the memory unit in, and everything worked just fine. I didn't have much time to test everything, but COD3 multiplayer actually worked for the first time, and GRAW was flawless, except I had no access to my chapter 2 files.

I'm dealing with the same exact **** from tech support. They had me send in my unit for repairs, now when I call in they tell me my unit was sent to Japan for repairs. I have been calling them over and over and supposedly they have to look up the ref number in the system and that system has yet to update within the past 3 days I have called, they cant tell me **** about my unit. I called the Japanese tech support and get all the jibberish lingo there and only to hear an automated service I cant understand. Tech Support USA told me it was also in English, I have yet to hear the words "Hello, thanks for calling, **** you for calling" or anything else we americans use in our lingo. Right now I'm off on a business trip but the day before I flew I was highly pissed and I'm sure the rage will continue when I get back. Just wanted to vent guys, but Microsoft XBOX 360 has a bad taste in my mouth at the moment.

That sucks... but I don't know that it's something to get your panties in a twist about. So you're down a video game system for few days. Chances are you'll get it fixed and everything will be kosher afterwards. It's all good.

Take a deep breath and relax. Rage should not be an emotion felt because your Xbox is not functioning for online play.

I'd be just as pissed if I paid that much for a system and it didn't work. The fact that its not just one person even on here experiencing problems doesn't look good for M$. They should ship you a new one if this is a known problem.

And since when did buying something that malfunctions soon after purchase, dealing with crappy/non-existant customer support, and then being without said product for days/weeks while they repair it become "all good" ??

lol, I always love these sweeping generalizations. For every 2 or 3 with issues there's another few hundred without them. Pretty low failure rate for something as complex as it is. Excuse? No, but that's where CS comes in, and the CS has been ****.

I'd say the same thing if this happens with Sony. All of a sudden it's a **** product because folks are having issues. The bottom line is that Microsoft needs to replace these, and I wouldn't stop raising hell until it happened. In fact, I'd go raise hell in the store I bought it from all the way up to the store manager rather than waste my time on the phone. They all have the phone numbers that go through the barriers of **** that MS has to put up to keep out all of the monotony of day to day business.

While this certainly isn't the case with ****, I have to ask how well people take care of their XBox 360s. If you've ever seen some gamer's places....well, lets just say it's not pretty. **** strewn everywhere, and old underwear on top of the fan ports. Then they wonder why it's broken.

Exactly. I'm not blaming Microsoft. Its a problem inherent to making a system this complicating, involving all sorts of hardware, software, online updates, and 3rd party software. Something is just bound to screw up now and then. I am in no way saying PS3 is the answer, I am just getting pretty tired of having to mess around with my 360 just to get it to work. It kind of ruins the fun of it all. Afterall, its not like I don't have other stuff I could be doing.

And Demi is right, I take care of my stuff. Once in a while it will become worlds most expensive coaster, but thats a rarity.
