The source is very important (garbage in = garbage out). I think that you'd be better off saving up some more money to get a better CDP that'll be with you for a longer period of time rather than purchasing a "budget" player that you're going to end up upgrading.
If you really want to stick with a low cost player I've found the Onix XCD-99 to be just as good as the Rotel 1070 / 1072.
Here is a link to some other players: link

How much for the rotel 1072??? you'd put that over the CA 640c??? love the look and sound of rotel though but i think its a little outta my price range right nowChicomorales:)

thanks for the link Halo but 2 probs one as you can see my address i'm located in the warm and sunny caribbean and secondly i'm not a supporter of used stuff well mainly electronics sources imparticular cdplayers moving parts??? i dont think so i'd rather save and get it or if i can't afford set my sights a little lower and make do till i get what i really want but thanks anyway i think i'll get the denon dcm changer for nowdcm-390Chicomorales:)

Sorry, I don't know about the models you mentioned but try to buy the best cdp you can find. It's better to start with a great source and not have to worry about upgrading it.

The Onix X-99 has been replaced by the CD-5. It sells for $399, I'm doing a review on one right now. A solid piece of equipment.Review Site_ (((AudioPursuit)))

Nothing wrong with buying used. My entire 2 channel rig except for the turntable was bought used. I would recommend the Rotel linked above or Roy Munson has a NAD C542 CDP at a very nice price. Here is the link to that one:

Either one would be much better than the Denon for close to the same money."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

So you would reccomend the nad542 i've heard good this about........seems alot of people prefer it over the CA 640 someone who compared the two refered the to the CA as sounding to "techical" less warm not sure what that means??? lolChicomorales:)

I currently have both the Music Hall cd25.2 and the Onix CD-5 on hand for reviews. From all that I have seen so far they are identical under the hood.Review Site_ (((AudioPursuit)))

Halo wrote:Beneath the skin they are supposed to be identical. The Onix is the better buy when you consider that it's less expensive to begin with + you get a 3 year warranty. AV123 has very good customer service. IMO, the Onix CD-5 is a much nicer looking piece of equipment (Gloss black faceplate with gold trim and buttons).Chicomorales:)

Ok i respect that. Yep variety is indeed the spice of life. Plus what the heck would i know i've only seen the music hall online heck i have not even heard of them till a few months ago but i will check them out hey if you know anyone at onix tell them to upgrade that website its not very appealing and does no do the quality of products that they are selling justice at the least. rotel Ca music hall hey even denon yammie hk all have far better sites its not just cost of them but its the first impression they make to a potential buyer just my my humble opipion.Chicomorales:)
