SDA SRS 2.3tl

No, the tweeters you have in them are the SL3000's, which are Tri-laminate dome.(See 2.3TL Specs ) They are a metal based design, the start of the same type of material that was used later in the SRT and the RT series. It is a very detailed design, some folks call it too bright.
(The tweeter everyone is talking about with the spike is a different model)
This material is no longer being manufactured and hence you cannot get new replacements from Polk.
When they learned they would no longer be able to get that material, they designed silk polymer based dome tweeters to replace them. It was found these new designs tamed the top end brightness a little, and alot of folks liked the sound, myself included.
The designation for the replacement is RDO198-1.
The number you are asking about no longer exists. Polk no longer has the exact replacement for the SL3000. -
SL3000 is the only designated name/number for the SL3000s as far as I know.
RD0198-1 is the number of the replacement tweeter for the SL3000 as they aren't made anymore. -
Thanks for the clarification both amulford and bobMcG. I’m more informed then I was before and I’m not as confused. So, the bottom line is, the replacement tweeters are less bright and preferred over the SL3000’s. I would like to hear from others on their opinion of which tweeter they prefer.shoester5

The silk replacements are the only way to fly.....
Personally, I wouldn't get wrapped around the axle about biamping either.

another vote for silk domes. I dont have exerience with the old sl3000 but have heard the silk replacements, NICE
the difference between the sl2000 and the silk replacement for them is also very significant in terms of imrovement. in my eyes, roll with the silk domes and dont look backLiving Room 2 Channel -

No question about it, the silk tweeters are the best.Political Correctness'.........defined

I have a stock pair of 2.3tl's that are mint. I find the SL3000 tweeter quite pleasant, and not bright at all. LOL, if it works and you are happy with the sound, perhaps do not fix what ain't broke!

I prefer the silk dome tweeters to the SL1000 and SL2000. I have not heard the SL3000. I don't think you could go wrong with the silk dome tweeters.

That was my experience as well. However, I did hear some "graininess" on some vocal recordings with the SL3000 that I did not hear with the RD0198-1. For initial comparison, I replaced the SL3000's in one of my SRS 1.2TL's with RD0's, set my preamp to mono and turned the balance control back and forth.
On instrumental music, I could not hear a difference between the SL3000 and the RD0198.Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -
It looks like more people prefer the silk tweeters to the SL3000’s. I think I’ll take DarqueKnight’s suggestion and do a side-by-side comparison. I’m headed to Florida this week and won’t be back until after Christmas but I’ll brake down and order six silk tweeters when I get back. When I get the tweeters I’ll let you all know. Thanks for all the input and help.shoester5

Give the new tweeters 24 hours of burn in before listening to them. You're good to go after that.Political Correctness'.........defined
