    The Dodd Battery Preamp is a SHA-1, ten fold over. There is so much life, and presence to the music. It's amazing what it did for my soundstage depth. I've got instruments a good 4-6 feet behind my speakers (its only 2ft to the back wall mind you), and 1-2 feet in front of them. Soundstage width is pushing 140-160 degrees -and the height is phenomenal too, it's as if my Spendors suddenly became line arrays. Vocals are crazy real, it's as close to live as I've ever been in my room. This is the first time I REALLY can't place where the speakers are. They have literally VANISHED.

    I've listened for 4 nights so far, and have yet to attach the charger, hell I haven't even switched over to the second bank of batteries!

    This is NUTS. I'm actually very excited about CES this year, and focusing on the elite tube and solid state preamps, and getting a feel for what they REALLY bring to the table.

    I hate to plagiarize, but I have to use the 'Stereophile' quote when they reviewed the SHA-1 (speaking on it's line stage ability and function):

    "I doubt one could do substantially better, at any price"

    That pretty much sums up my thoughts on the Dodd Audio Battery Preamp.

    Hey Russ Congrats. She's a real Beauty! several of my friends over @ the Audiocircles now own the Dodd Audio Battery Powered Preamplifier's and i hear nothing but very good things about them.i am really glad to see that you have the Pleasure of owning one of the best sounding Preamplifier's on the Planet! i would love to get a chance to audition one of them in the near future.     Anyway, Russ, you have me interested in that Dodd Pre of yours.

    I just played with my new Cary SLP98 and it is truly worldclass.. no comparison to the Rogue Metis tube that I have had in the interim. Though I have in my possession, one of the elite preamps in the sane price category, I cant help but mention that after hearing/reading your thoughts on what might be possibly the best preamp under $10K, you have my full attention. Enough so that you have me interested in picking one up.

    Great job with the pre. Good to know what else there is to look forward to in this hobby of ours.

    Russ... the rabbit hole DOES go very deep.

    oscar also has the dodd battery preamp. i will have the belles 21a (auricap upgrade) in tomorrow as it at the fort worth fedx terminal as of yesterday.
    i tried to drop the hint to gary that i could only pay $1500 for his preamp but he would not bite.:)

    Do you think the battery operation is the big winner here, or is it just another perk that is good to have, but not critical to the overall sound?

    The battery power is a BIG part of the magic of this pre amp. Pure power, no noise or trash.
