If you're going with audio from CC, get the kef 2005 CSS system.. It comes with the 2005s and an Onkyo TXSR504 for a little over $1000.

The Rti8s are actually cheaper then the M70s. And the Monitor 60s are actually considered by many to be the best of that series.
For recievers, I went with H/k 240 new for 300 bucks, has pre-outs, and decent with music and movies. They don't sell that model anymore (new one is $600) You can find a nice refurbished reciever from the h/k website. There is also other brands to look at. Just make sure you do more research before buying...
WOW... this is really great people! I'm overwhelmed by the support. ;0)
OPEN BAR for all if I could, but can't ---> [gotta save my $green$ ya know...]
What / How do you all feel about the Polk RM8000T $699? CCity currently is throwing in a PSW10BK with a pair [for all i know this sub could be a POS though.... no?? ]
The H/K 240 was only 65 watts.. .. is that enough??? Nice looking unit though. I did not see anywhere on the site for refurbished but on eBay they are 600 new. -

wattage isn't as important. The HKs put out some solid power.. I've driven large floorstanding (Monitor 70s, RTi10s, Beta50s) with the AVR 2xx series, always sounds great. It's a great deal for sure, cc dropped infinity as a supplier so all the products are on closeout. If you want a real good deal look for a 335 or 635 open box... -

RM series is designed for people that care more about cosmetics then sound. and yes, IMO, that sub is a POS.:plofmarks wrote:The H/K 240 was only 65 watts.. .. is that enough??? Nice looking unit though. I did not see anywhere on the site for refurbished but on eBay they are 600 new.
well, depends on what speakers you buy. But don't think the 604 is much more powerful with 90 watts cause it isn't. Onkyo (and many other companies) inflate this number to give the impression their reciever is more impressive and powerful. h/k is one of the few companies who don't... Don't pay retail for that reciever or anything else, you can always find stuff on sale, used, or on clearance...

I see the 235 for $299, good deal. but look around everywhere, this should be just a start.
I think one of my three selections will do you just fine, but try to take a look at other places besides circuit city. Theres a lot more out there...

Polk's RM series is their version of HTIB! Quite frankly I cringe about buying anything out of CC! If you have a Tweeter or the like where you are go there instead.
YES it is more money, but the selection & products are better!
Again save your money, audition Polks at a good store, with music you know well on better receivers! MAKE SURE THE RECEIVER HAS PREOUTS!!!!
Once you find a Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha, HK receiver that you think you can be happy with, then look for a deal & get it online.

Why don't you get a surround bar and an HK AVR. Someone is giving a free sub with surround bar purchase. May be a little over your budget. Since you are mostly into HT I think this is a wise choice and would also settle your wire issues. Just my 2 cents,

I started with the RTi8's, got them used for around $300. Boy, I couldn't be happier with them either. I listened to the M series from Polk as well as the RTi's... the RTi's just plain kicked their butts IMO. If you can find a used pair of 8's, that is totally the way to go.
It took me a year to get to my 5.1 setup. I started with the 8's and a Denon 3805 used... after that just pieced it together. As stated before, save another month if need be, and get the better speaker. You won't be sorry.
And I use my HT for about 90% HT and the 8's flat our rock. I have a "crappy" sub, but it fills in nicely with the crossover at 60hz.
Go with the RTi8's my man, you won't be sorry!!!Honoured to be, an original SOPA founding member

Thanks again to all whom replied and teach/taught me the ways!
What it "looks" like I am going to do is go with the KEF 3005 series.
I am limited to staying with CCity due to financial reasons basically. They have a package for Black Friday surprisingly to me [after pretty much choosing this as my system] of basically the system including the Onkyo TX-SR504. Tax free also.
CCity here does NOT carry the RSI's nor the Monitor 60's... they only carry everything everyone basically told me to stay away from. Like the Monitor 70's and the Polk IAB RM6800's, and more.
Patience?? Yes, I'd like to have some but at the same time I am horny to get this going and hope my choice IS a good one.
Your input and thoughts [positive & negative] on my choice is much appreciated in advance! so.... slam away
Thanks again,

I won't knock the KEFs sound since I haven't heard that series directly, but my thoughts is that you are locking yourself into basically a $1800 HTIB with little to no path for upgrades.
Unless you are financing on a CC card, I would go used Polks and maybe even a used receiver that at least has preamp outs.
Then again.......... I don't finance toys, if I can't pay cash I can't afford it. I learned years ago that stuff on payments doesn't sound as sweet.

Hey lofmarks - welcome aboard!
I'll toss in my opinions as well....
I had the Monitor 60's and thought they were pretty decent for the price I paid. The mids were a bit muddy though and they didn't fill my rather large room. I ended up selling here which brings me to my second point -
Used is a GREAT way to go if you are on a budget. Several of the "old timers" here regularly clear out their gear at fantastic prices. Believe me, I am king of immediate gratification, but be patient - someone will sell exactly what you are looking for eventually.
Definately find an AVR with pre outs - you WILL want to upgrade to seperate power amps eventually and you will be ready to go.
The Polk subs are generally considered to be very mediocre. I have the PSW12 and it is servicable, that is about it. Tons of port noise during loud heavy bass passages. I turn it off altogether for 2 channel listening.
Keep an eye out for other Chuck Town Polkies. There are more than a few in residence here and they are solid guys.
If you do go the Monitor route - I have a CS1 that you can have for $60 shipped - maybe that helps, maybe not.
In any event, be patient, and then be happy with your purchase at least for a little while until the upgrade bug has a chance to incubate!
Cheers!

i would still go elsewhere, anything you can find at CC can surely be found somewhere else and cheaper. And do your really want to go to circuit city on black friday:eek: . believe me, I worked two black fridays there and wanted to kill myself. Why would you want to sit out in the cold when you be warm and cozy looking on the internet?
forget CC for a little bit:p , and look at just used and clearance stuff on the internet and local used shops(or even stuff on sale)... and you'll find yourself saving a few bucks in the process:)AVR: H/K AVR240

Get out while you still can! I got bit by this bug a couple months ago, and have already upgraded countless times.
I'll sell ya my H/K AVR240 for $300 shipped. It's like a month old. *bangs head against desk* -
ok ok... with this much input, I am really feeling your vibes....
P A T I E N C E is the key here, & I DO agree. Just anxious is all and that is why I was jumping on the Polk HOME SPEAKER IAB 6800 series, or the KEF [which is quite expensive!!! yikes!] bandwagons [just horny to get started!]
ok, ok.... so help me re-group ok??? Lets start with dane_peterson.,,, I don't know much about the HK AVR240.,, can I have some input on these from you and others.. I guess I'll just start there. My goal from this point will be to piece my HT little by little as you all so gratiously instructed me to [& that I asked from the beginning on how I should go about this]
Many MANY Thanks for all of your input.
So... on with the journey! Inputs appreciated once again!!!

snag that 240, and your set for a decent system. I'll say this one more time, forget CC and anything they sell:D even if they have something you want, still don't buy from them unless they give you a great deal:)
Next would be your stereo speakers, I and many others have already commented on what you can buy, so just take a look back at this thread....

Here is what I would do.
Monitor 60's(tb90) 349.00 a pair at tweeter(fronts)
Csi 1 or 2 199.00-299.00(center)
Monitor 30 or monitor 40 for surround 199.99 each
If you spend 499.00 or over at tweeter you get a free sub from Polk
Buy a used receiver off of the polk forums.(with a pre-out)
This would be a good start. Then I would up to the RTi 10 with an amp.Everything I own burned in the fire!!!!!!!!!! -
Go used!!!!!!!!!! Stay away from places like C.C. .
Your options for equipment on e-bay and all over the web are endless.
They have RTi-6's on ebay everyday for like 250 a set. For 300 to 500 you can get a reveiver of any brand in great shape with the options and pre-outs you need to stay happy for any length of time.
I would try to stay with the Rti line as I had the Monitor's and was unhappy with them (thats just me) but if you go that route, I have my CS-1 on e-bay for 80.00
Just an example: (4) Rti-6's for $500
(1) AVR for say $400.00
(1) sub for $100 to $200 (not the best sub but ok)
Don't cheap out now just to spend more later. The fact that your on this site is proof enough that you are going to get hooked on this monster hobby.Michael

Hi again,
Tweeter has ~~~ RTi8's, floor model, $650, no tax & includes the free POS Sub everyone has been talking about. Good deal???????????????? -
Honestly, you could probably find them for cheaper somewhere else. You can get a pair of NEW ones from Crutchfield for $700.
Noticing people may have directed you to get speakers before you get a receiver... how exactly is the audio going to get to the speakers without one? Something to think about. -

Jump on that!!!! Great speakers at a fair price. The sub will hold you until you save more money (or you might be happy with it and just keep it.) The RTi-8 run $349.99 each on crutchfield, so it's a fair deal. See if they still have the boxes.Michael

I kinda disagree... the only deal you are getting out of that is the free sub. and you should definitly sell that(completed sales on ebay between 100 and 125 new) and put that money towards a better sub (the rtis deserve better than that;) ). Open box items from stores are USUALLY abused more than customers selling thier own items.
I don't know, if you want to grab them, go ahead. I personally would be hesitant...AVR: H/K AVR240

like I said, not a great deal but a fair one. They are a factory dealer so you get the 5 year warranty. If you have a problem you have a local store you can go to for service (tweeter's customer service is pretty friendly) Tweeter as a whole is a good company to deal with and if you are going to buy more then one product, they will deal on price with you.Michael
