WTB: Monitor 7s or 10s or better in Ohio

Heya,

I've decided to rebuild my 2 channel rig after not being able to bring it cross-country when I moved last year. I am looking for either a set of Monitor 7s, 10s, maybe RTAs. I've been looking on ebay, and there are some good deals, but then the shipping is outrageous due to weight, so I would like to drive 100-150 miles at most to pick them up.

If you have anything like this or a similar offer let me know!

Hmm... Those 10s are just about what I was looking for.. the RTAs would save a ton of space though. What is so different about the RTAs? I'm looking for a wide soundstage and warm, but accurate, sound. I used to have RTi70s on my stereo rig, and I loved how they sounded.

Also, since you've used both, which is easier to drive? I may end up doing with a 60wpc older SS amp, ST-120s or GFA-535, or possible two of either of those if they can be bridged.

Personally, I believe the RTAs are the most accurate of the two. The 10s have better bass response and that sweet Peerless tweeter, but the RTAs are a better at imaging. I've driven both with 20 watt tube monoblocks to extreme volumes, so I'd say both are fairly equal in that category. Personally, unless you're just wanting to rock out, I'd go with the RTAs over the 10As. Now if we were talking about 7As, that would be a different story.

    Keith,
If you drive over, you can demo them both and then decide which would suit your needs the best.

I dont want to get into a debate war, but the 7a's or 7b's with the peerless have the best imaging overall.

yea I'm not all about volume. I like medium to high volume levels, but I'm more concerned about full sound, I hate too much bass, but I hate it when its all warm with no detail.

Well, are you actively trying to sell these right now? I work in retail and getting anything done the week of thanksgiving is nearly impossible, but I would love to come give them a listen, and come home with a pair (probably the RTAs).. hell, I might take both, but my girlfriend would make me pay lol

Sorry Jake, but the 7s aren't EVER going anywhere...probably my second favorite Polk speaker and mine are minty fresh. I got them from the original owner.

I woulda picked it up, but I'm looking for a two channel setup right now.

He picked up a HK 635 for $200? Is CC smoking something?

I think if that reciever had a blown power supply and a cracked face and all dented up it would still be worth more than $200.

For $200 bucks that would have been one hell of a 2 channel amp.

Better yet, if you can get me one of those 635s I'll let you have both pairs.
See, I'm thinking about, finally, putting togather an all LSi HT and the centerpiece will be a HK AVR.

This may sound strange, but I want a simple setup. 2 channel power amp, and a preamp with two inputs.. one for a CD player, one for a turntable.

    wow still up huh..

hey another questions.. I was able to buy a Dynaco ST-120, then I found some discussion about how awful they are... I used to run my RTi70s with a Marantz 1060b which was only... about 25wpc. Would it pay off in the long run to spring for something in the 100wpc range from NAD or B&K?
