I would go for the NSD-12. You can never have too much. However, you can not have enough. Err on the safe side.

From the reviews the 10 might be enough!

    I agree with Early B.

Create a quick diagram of your HT room, send an e-mail to Tom (sales@svsound.com ) and he’ll tell you what you need. Speaking from experience while suffering from upgradeitis, after I got my SVS, I wanted more. I certainly did not need it, but I wanted it. Tom simply told me I would be wasting my money to buy another SVS for my theater based on the increases I would get and the cost to get them. He did give me a recommendation on a something coming in 2007 that will be equivalent to two of my PB12-Plus/2 in one slightly larger box. I took their advice and I will wait until next year.

    Good Luck!

Another vote for contacting SVS. Ron suggested the best sub for my room size and application. Couldn't be happier.

Look at the website, take what you *think* you can afford, and buy the next model up the chain. Fact is, the bottom of the line powered SVS cylinder, or box will be MORE than enough for any given room in an a HT application - unless you are a total f$%king nut - ie clinically insane in the brain.

    Cheers,

Yeah I think the 10 should be good. I am moving from a house to probably a townhouse.

If you can get the PB12-NSD, then grab it. Just keep in mind, that the PB10-NSD isn't a small sub. In fact, it's quite the opposite. The PB12-NSD is a mammoth, but would be so much fun to have. I own the PB10-ISD and love it. Power and lots of it. If the 12 is outside of your price range, either save a little more or buy the 10. Honestly, you'd be happy with the 10. Still, ask SVS to double check. I did, and they were very prompt and gave great advice.

Ditto. I did the same thing and they recommended their 25-31plus for my room (13x32). They hit the nail on the head. Plenty of juice for picture shaking & feel it in your bones bass!

I purchased a 12.1 plus driver on this site. Tom at SVS told me everything I needed to build my sub. He stood to make no money from any sale and was still very helpful also telling me to contact him if I ran into any snags on the project. We are talking about a first class company there.

I live in a house right now and have a jvc sub and that does fine. It is hidden behind the couch under a endtable. So I can only imagine what a SVS sub will do for me. I am moving into a townhouse so I think the 10 will do more than enough for. How does SVS compare with a company like velodyne? I dont care about size I will find a way to hide it or make it look good. Can you just run a subwoofer cable on these?

So is a SVS a better choice for a sub, in a HT setup, that will be used for movies as well as music listening than a velodyne?

Depends on which Velodyne...The PB10 will pretty much smoke the under $600 Velos and will compete with the SPL series, though they are totally different animals. I've compared the DD15 with my Plus, again totally different animals and I'd love to own a DD15, but I wouldn't trade my Plus for one...I'd want both.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

The only input the SVS PB10-NSD has is a line level subwoofer input, which is what most people use anyway. This sub operates on the assumption that most people use the internal crossovers from their receivers, rather than the ones on their subs. As for comparing to Velodyne, well, if you're looking in the same price range as SVS, there is no real comparison. Velodyne makes better subs than many other companies, but in the price range of the PB10, they won't be much in comparison. The SVS will play much lower and won't ever clip, or cut off. Stick with SVS. Living in a townhouse means you have to consider your neighbors when you watch movies, but you can always turn down your sub. :(

Sorry it took me so long to respond. If you have any more questions, then let me know.

I love my SVS subs. I have dual 20-39 subs with the 1000 watt sampson amp. I have a large room with high ceilings. As someone said email SVS and they will honestly lead you in the right direction.
