Tweeter in Monitor 50's not working.

I have two Polk Audio Monitor 50 speakers that I have hooked up to my Marantz SR5600. The system was cranked and the receiver went into protect mode, but now it seems like the tweeters do not seem to be functioning. Is there some kind of protection that could have switched on? I found it strange that they both quit working at that same time.

Thanks

well, it sounds like you over drove the speakers by cranking it up to high.. and your receiver overheated or clipped and went into protect mode.. but the damage to your tweeters was already done.

How old are your speakers? You now have to have the tweeters replaced.

The speakers are only a couple of months old. Is there somewhere that I can order just the tweeters?

    Thanks

I also have a pair of Monitor 50s and the tweeter has failed. I was not over running my amp and I'm sure it didn't clip. My Advents on the other hand are 35 years old and aside from replacing foam around the woofers they still sound great. Now, I just want a new tweeter, not to have to buy a new set of speakers.

George, those are two different guys with the same dead tweeter problem. the original poster never responded after his initial post.

for anyone reading this... a tweeter blows when it's overdriven. call up Polk customer service. and see if they stock your tweeter.
