I noticed before i posted that the new mini pb12's have the balanced input, wasn't sure on the bigger models. Website has no pictures of the newer models, they look like the same pictures from a yr. ago

Ya, only the new sealed box does, probably because its sealed. Balanced inputs arn't common on subwoofers.

No. For what reason do you need balanced input?

Balanced inputs offer superior noise (hum) rejection. This is particularly valuable for long runs of cable. Sometimes the optimum location for a subwoofer is a fairly long distance from the audio system. Balanced inputs make sense in this type of application.

I understand that DarqueKnight, thank you. The reason I was asking is that under "normal" circumstances you would never need it or use it.

I see he is using an Outlaw now. Does that pre come with balanced outs?

They haven't changed. The new sealed enclosure SB12?, comes with balanced inputs. That's the only model.

I guess the question is what do you plan on using balanced inputs if your pre-amp doesn't support it? Quit curius?

990 has balanced outputs - (including sub) but no balanced inputs. It helps with hum, but is not considered a fully balanced pre since it does not contain balanced inputs. (for a cd player to hook up to for example)

    Center............Polk LSiC (Crossover upgraded)

I understand that he has the 950, with which he wouldn't benefit from a balanced line.

There is no benefit using a unbalanced connection(RCA) to a XLR connection on a subwoofer (vise versa). That is what I'm asking if he plans on doing? If the connections on both isn't fully balanced there is nothing to gain, in fact you can actually make it worse having your connections that way. I speak from experience... I ran Belden 1800F balanced cable via my pre-pre(Pioneer VSX-74TXVi) to my Monster MPA 3250 amps(XLR) and there was terrible hum/interference. I then concluded with BJC 12' RCA LC-1 cable from both and it was dead silent.

I was just guessing because you asked. Let the thread killer close this one.
Thier are no new PB12/2's out thier and thier is really no need for a balanced input on a sub. That is why "they" don't come with'em. I have had 30' runs with quality rca with no probelm.
