    Chico,
have you thought about Onkyo's line of avr's? the 703 is rated at 100 wpc and also has preouts for upgrading to separates in the future.

Onkyo hasn't built a decent receiver in many years.

this could be said for many other companies too.. not just Onkyo. Also, if a person buys brand X, and has problems with it.. he'll forever think that brand X is a POS. When in fact it MAY be a POS, or he may have just gotten one that had problems.

Electronics are not foolproof.... sometimes they don't work right out of the box.. or develop problems shortly after installing it.. either way.. i think the major brands out there all fill a niche market.. be in entry level, mid-fi, or high end.

Unless you get into the top of thel line Marantz receivers, most all of theirs are just so so.. nothing special. How many people in here are currently using a Marantz recevier? Whenever shopping for a receiver.. do people even consider Marantz anymore? Very seldom it seems. Them may consider it, but in the end.. they ultimately go with a different brand. WHy?

I'm just thinking out loud.. and trying to bring some balance to the receiver wars. :)

    have a nice day!

P.S. I don't own any Onkyo products. Not because they are POS, I just don't like their looks.

Why yes i do work for Marantz... NOT! :D

see you are proving my point exactly... that very few people anymore consider Marantz when looking for a receiver these days. WHY i ask? I think Marantz receivers took a nose dive in around the 80's and 90's... even before being bought by Denon. They still do make high end gear that is quite good.. but most of their lower and mid level stuff is just ok. I'd consider it beneath Denon in terms of sound and value.

OK what are you basing this on? Rumour, reputation, actual reviews? Cause I can't find the sort of reviews you are giving Marantz. Actually I'm finding that outside of this site, Marantz is pretty highly regarded due to the way that they have designed even their lower end receivers. From what I have read, and this from sound engineers, the sound from a marantz is like an old tube amp, they have a very rounded out sound by design, just the ticket for a couple of rti's if the high ends are starting to annoy you.

Ah well. To each their own.
