baloney. what's good and what sucks is mostly subjective. Coupled to quality gear that shows off a speaker's strengths while masking it's weaknesses, always has the potential to sound good if not spectacular to any given pair of ears.

imo the 6's with a sub will sound better than the 8's.

    Ok dude...

    Heres my advice...

    Dont listen to anyone.

Buy something. You wont go wrong with any of these choices.

Chances are you dont even know what you like. And with that fact in mind, how can you even decide what you want. How can we decide for you.

I like Polk, I like Definitive, AV123, Tyler Acoustics, list goes on and on...

But Ive owned quite a few speakers and have narrowed my taste down a bit...

One thing is for certain, I rarely asked people what they thought - because it just dosnt matter.

We can give you our thoughts and opinions, and everyones will be different...

So stop asking, buy a pair of something - you like em? Cool. Dont? return em... buy something else...

Of course they are good speakers for music, your ears will tell you so!

Go out and audition them, and make that assumption yourself. You don't go buy a car with out test driving it, that should go the same for speakers. Don't buy a set until you hear them for yourself!

id recommend the rti8, i compared the rti70 rti6 and rti8 and i prefer the 70's much better than the other two. i have the rti6's here as rear speakers in ht and i a/b them and i believe the 70 is much richer in sound due to its size but the rti6 is a great speaker especially for the price they go for on ebay. you cant go wrong with either one and they sound similar, just depends on what restrictions you have on your setup, if none i recommend a floorstanding speaker but thats just me.

I own the RTi8's. They are awesome speakers. Not a whole lot of bass in them, but that is what a Sub is for. Those that say 2-channel should be without a sub, I don't agree. I like the sub for the extra punch.

Like everyone else said, test them out. You won't go wrong if you get them, because you can just turn around and sell them off... But just get something.

    Get that groove on.

Sound logic on any on most of the replies. thanks immensely. Before one does ask you better have something in mind you like. I always like the sound of polks in fact they are the 1st speaker i bought rti15 bought a pair of klipsch rf-25 and even bose 901 god forbid i must have been insane to do that. My biggest limitation is i dont have the luxury of auditions speakers like you guy. I live in a caribbean islands st. maarten (miss toronto when or even b'dos) when it comes to that) have a klipsch dealor and definitive dealor both have limited model to 'audition' i bought me polks from a dealor in USVI never heard them before and was totally satified. sure rti line tends to be a bit colour to some bbut thats cool for me i love the horn tweeter setup on the RF line if found the Def-tech line intriguing for HT Bipole set is nice but hmmm music??? Too me a good speaker is a good speaker period. But i "hear" otherwise seeing aint always believing but its hard to hear crap and know its really crap unless you've seen and heard alot of it before:) i'm leaning toward the rti6's but i find the paradigms intresting hearing good things but i aint going to Puerto Rico just to auditon a pair lol but well those mini monitor and the focus models do look hmmm intresting .oh what would i need to power the rti6's decently 100wpc be ok???

It's been said before, but I'll say it again: There is no way to know what you would like w/o your hearing it for yourself!

As for me, I bought a set of RTi6's & a PSW10 sub to put in the dining room. I wanted bookshelf speakers, not floor standers. I listened to RTi4, RTi6, LSi7, and LSi9 (and others which shall remain nameless.) Maybe the LSi9's I heard were bad or driven by really poor electronics, but I found them to be the worst of the lot by a wide margin. I liked the sound of the others, but thought the RTi4's were totally anemic w/o a sub, where the others could be used sans sub, although not competely satsifying. So I went w/ the RTi6 as the sound I liked at a good price. Others here swear by the LSi9's. Who can say who is right, as if there were an absolute right.

As to power, it depends on how loud you want to go. I find the RTi6's do very well w/ 75 wpc. BUT, this is an old reciever w/ old style power supply. One of these gutless wonders w/ a switching power supply probably won't cut it. You need to be able to get very high peak power for those transients to have any clarity. As I understand it, these new switching power supplies give just what they say--the spec says 100 watts, and that's all there is; no 400 watt transient to he had. Most of the time, you only draw a watt or two continuous, but for the transients, you may need 300 to 500 watts. I think that's why these light weight AVRs w/ high power ratings sound like crap to me.

    Good luck.

I second the go with the LSi9s and don't look back.

I started with R15s, then Monitor 30s, then 60s, and then went to the LSi. Great speaker and a pair of LSi9s can be had for $899 street price, much less if on sale or bought through ebay. I bought mine for $800 on sale at Tweeter where I had the ability to return them if I want, which I didn't do for obvious reasons.

If you listen to your music loud then you'll probably need an amp with the 9s since they're 4 ohm and hungry, but I powered them off my receiver for a few weeks and they sounded great even at decent volume levels.

I'm running my rti6's on a 90wpc onkyo 603 and it plays great, ht and music! If you don't have room for a floor speaker, then go ahead and get the rti6. you won't regret it. I'm saving up for a sub, and I know that when it gets hooked up my system will sound even that much better! Unless you're waiting on a sale, just go for it!

I just switched to Lsi 7's & love them. But,Think about the Rti-10 if you have room for floor speakers. They are alittle warmer then the 8's. Not being able to hear any of these before is a major set back but all the speakers you are looking at are quality speakers.

I don't know how anybody can compare the any of the Rti's to the Lsi's when it comes to music. If I was to purchase a speaker today the Lsi's for a main 2 channel would be a starting point.

I can relate to your struggles in your decision. Soooo many choices out there and when you don't have access to alot it really is a struggle. I only have one or two high end places where I live and the people working there weren't very helpfull to me when I was first building my system.

What you have to do is ask yourself how much I am willing to pay for my speaker purchase and then get the most out of that money that will also be able to be driven with your current electronics. It is okay to ask questions. Take your time and do alot of research on other forums as well. Oh, and don't even bother reading professional reviews....talk to the people.

    I wish you luck,

7's are great for music as well, much better than the RTi's (even with lower end gear), and can be had quite cheap.

All right since you asked, you are being a cheapie. There is nothing wrong with being patient, saving more money & getting an amplifier that is designed to run home stereo equipment!

If you're going that route why not just use the receiver? I doubt RTi6 + external amp is going to give you better sound than a better speaker with the receiver. If you were to get something on the LSi-series then amp would be nice althought the 7's still sound very good with a decent receiver.

    Just my $0.02. :)

I use my RTi8s primarily for music and I have no complaints. They were definitely lacking in bass when paired with my old Sony STRAV920 receiver, but I recently bought the Yamaha RXV659 and am loving the sound! I don't think I'm going to bother with buying a subwoofer now - the bass is just fine for an apartment dweller.

I listen to a wide range of music, but I'm primarily a hard rock and metal freak  My new system sounds great when rocking out. I haven't had a chance to test it yet with other genres of music, such as classical.
