Kids should never have to risk getting hurt.
Almost anything a kid does can result in harm especially if it is considered fun by the kid so therefore, we should stop all fun activities and force the kids to sit in circles burning bugs with magnifying glasses and pulling wings off of flies.

OMG, that's terrible. I remember laying out across pavement to catch a touchdown pass during recess back in elementary. I also almost lost a fingure during the obstacle race during field day. . .

Aren't cuts, bruises, casts, and the sort all just a part of being a kid? What's cooler than having kids sign your cast when you're in 4th grade and having a cool "how I broke my arm" story to tell and embellish.

I guess I should buy stock in human bubbles since it looks like it's heading that way. One word, plastics!

actually, if someone told me Bill Gates refused to play tag or touch football growing up, I would definitely believe it. . . probably the whole techy-image.

Stereotypes, although potentially harmful, are often true.

That really breaks my heart (and pisses me off). I had a blast playing those games when I was little. We used to play game called "Smear the ****" which consisted of tackling the guy that had the ball. He then gave it up and the next guy got chased and tackled and so on.... The name back then had FAR more to do with rhyming than with sexual orientation. Hell, we were only 7 years old and could care less.

While I'm at it - I also hate when score isn't kept for kids' games. Ties are nice but just don't happen that often in real life.

So wait, let me get this straight. The hate to see their kids home playing video games all the time, but then pull something like this.

Can't say anything that hasn't already been said, but all of you folks with kids should start standing up to this **** rather than just sitting here complaining about it.

The real problem is of course, lawsuits. The school is afraid of beign sued by all the cash-happy crazies out there.

The good news is, this kind of thing USUALLY goes in cycles. One generation gets fed up with the extremes of the previous generation and push it the other way. Our current ultra-conservative societal push is based on rebellion / fear from the 60's ultra-liberal do-anything crowd that their kids will do the same. Hopefully our kids generation will be fed up with being coddled and will ... uncoddle their kids. Hopefully.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Kids are going to explore, and exploring dangerous activities is just part of the right of passage! It's when we don't recognize that and try to instill how to keep yourself safe that it all starts to go wrong. My kids (9 and 11) ride horses, atv's, dirt bikes, and shoot pellet and .22 rifles. They have been taught how to be as safe as possible, they have never riden and atv or dirt bike without helmet, gloves, chest/spine protector, googles, and proper clothing so they think anyone who doesn't "gear up" prior to riding is weird! It's when the over-protected kids grow up and then decide to explore the dangerous activities without a clue as to how to be safe that disaster beckons!

Exactly! I remember sliding into a base to beat a tag, only the base was on asphalt, and I ended up having small pieces of glass and pebbles removed from my leg before getting a few stitches. That's supposed to happen once in a while. It builds character.

No surprise that this is going on in my home state of MA. The Newton, MA public schools barred any reference to, or celebration of Halloween in school last year. Sheep, yes, sheep.

I guess they can all play patty-cake....

No wait....that can get pretty agressive. What if a kid misses and patty-cakes another kid in the nose?

    Maybe the hokie pokie?

NO....probably not. They could fall or step on someone's foot or who knows what could happen when they "shake it all about"

our company did a media (TV/internet/newspaper) viewer research of all age groups. interesting fact is that in the year 2010, which is only three years away.. the age group between 18 and 29 will be the largest population group.

Research shows that this age group likes information at their disposal and leisure.. saying that don't have time to watch the local news at 5 or 6pm anymore because their lives are to busy. Preferring to instead get it over the internet when they have time. Ok, i can understand that, we'll all doing more with less resources these days.. we'll all busy.

Another interesting fact i found out today that this age group wants to be recoginized for "just showing up" they don't want any kind of award, they want to get singled out for showing up.. ie: work, dinner out, etc. They need the affirmation to be able to make it thru the day. OMG!

There were lots more interesting facts for this age group.. those are they ones I thought were interesting.

I do have to say that research showed this age group is smarter overall than Gen X'ers, and baby boomers, etc. Scoring higher (overall) on SAT's, etc.

Neal Boortz was talking about this on his show and some dimwit mom called up supporting the idea saying that her kids arent afraid to go to school now.

Exactly! This has nothing to do with coddling the children or some undercover attempt to protect them. It has to do with protecting the school and the staff of the school.

Do not blame the children or the school. It is the Lawyers and those parents who cannot accept the fact that accidents do and will happen. Until our society takes a stance and rids this world of frivolous lawsuits, those lawyers who initiate them, and the judge that lets them stand, you will continue to see a decline in people accepting responsibility.

This angers me to no end to think that a parent would sue a school because their child was tackled and got a scrapped knee... but they will. After all didn't a lady sue McDonalds because she was too stupid to realize that coffee is served hot and that you should not attempt to drive while drinking hot coffee? Hell, my blow dryer has a warning on it that says Not to be used in the shower. This was caused by some jerk using it in the shower, getting shocked, and then suing because he did not have the brains/common sense to take responsibility.

Personally I do not want to save all these people who are too stupid to not use a blow dryer in the shower or blame someone else when they spill their own drink. I do not want to continue to pay higher and higher insurance bills because some family sued a doctor because their baby was born ugly (yes... that happened right here in my small community).

You want your children to have sports in their future? Then take a stance and express your concern over this frivolous lawsuits and actions by passing a law that fines the person that files an idiotic case. Fine the lawyers that file ridiculous actions. Fine the judge that prosecutes for not using common sense.

Don't blame the children or the schools. Blame the hypocrisy that protects us from cleansing the gene pool!

I rode my bicycle into a pile of weeds only to find the weeds were covering a barbed wire fence. The hole torn in my flesh didn't hurt near as bad as when my Mom told be to get that blood out of the house and wash it off with the garden hose.

How was I suppose to know that those sprayers on the end of the hose would shoot clear to the bone and fill my leg full of water?

This is why I now force my kids to run with scissors. No son grows up a **** after he's taken Fiskars to the groin or forehead.

We also have family "play with fire" night.

And, I put them in a sheet-metal room with a BB gun.

Nothing a dousing of mecurichrome and an hour of Bugs Bunny can't cure.
