I was giving you a heads up. If you want to see what happens look at a thread called "flea market" that was from the other day. I think everyone on the forum jumped on this guy. Those SDA's are sweet. I didn't see his per say but I know the speakers. Wish I had the room for them, They are alittle big to say the least.

It can be done, but most car audio woofers are built to sound best in the confines of the car.

The key to home audio vs car audio subs is the actual distance that the woofer cone travels. Look for Xmax specs above 12mm to move enough air to pressurize your room.

I built my Dual Adire Shiva couch sub as 2-5 cubic foot boxes under the couch with 38 inches of 4 inch ports. This tunes it to 17.5 hz which is great for HT, and I don't use it for music as I prefer full range SDAs for music.

The best bang for your buck is DIY if you are going to use it yourself, but they are hard as hell to sell to anyone else since huge, heavy-**** homemade speakers don't sell well.

Think about an IB if you haven't before. Hands down the best bang for the buck, and if you like DIY it is a great project. Not for everyone, because of the logistics, but you won't find a better sub.

actuley the x max is not the problem of car subs it is the fs or the resedent fr of the car sub most are set at mid 30 and you get the last octavemy cabbin gane where in a ht it is all the woofer and verrylittle cabin gane

Good choice. You won't find a better driver for twice the price.

You'll want to contact SVS then about design recommendations. They won't give you the TS parameters to really go all out on a design. You'll want to try to clone one of their designs. They should give you some ballpark figures to work with...

I will contact SVS tomorrow but on the site, this driver is close to the 12.3 plus in the 20-39. I could not find info on the 12.1 on svs's web page. The 20-39 is 16" dia tube and 39" in hight.

Do a search on Home Theater Forum or AVS Forum for Sonosub. You will find pics of lots of DIY subs and a number using the exact driver and tube you have.

I would use this port or a couple of its smaller sisters to get the tune you desire.

You'll probably need to use three 3" ports, just like the PC+ subs do. I don't think a single 4" would have enough port area.

I'm about ready to start a new sub box. The Sonotube sub is too big for my theater and has to sit out in the room, I want to hide my sub.

The new box will go under the Futon in the back row. I will keep the size the same, roughly 9 cf. Currently I'm running a Tempest 15" in a 24"x36" Sonotube with duel 17" flaired ports. She's tuned to 17Hz. I'll use all the same parts so all I need is a sheet of 3/4" MDF.

Ron, your theater is in the garage right? wouldnt that be ideal for an infinite baffle set up? (i.e., your garage is the box)

of course, neighbors might be able to hear your garage rattling, who knows

OK, so so far the plans are 12.1 SVS driver, sonotube 16" dia. approx. 40" (+)
base height., 3 3" ports (don't know what the depth of the port tubes should be). Egg crate type open cell foam insulation, mdf top & base, pvc 1-1/2" legs.
I would like to go with a flush mount plate amp from bash but I'm not sure how to mount it on the back of the tube so I will be confident nothing will rattel. I know I will still need wire and some type of sock for the tube and other odds & ends, but all in all I think the plan is coming together well.
I'm sending the money out for the driver tonight & will choose the amp after I find what will match the driver.

Did you email SVS about port length? that or ask someone around here who has a PC+ to measure the length of theirs...

don't worry about open cell egg crate. You can just use polyfil, which is cheaper, but may not be as easy to attach to the walls.

forget flush mounting the plate amp. way too much work there, and you comprise the strength of the cylinder. the whole point of using a cylinder is that you don't need bracing. Just build a seperate box for the plate amp to sit in on the floor...

You'll want to use a ring of plywood somewhere in your ring/plugs to attach the driver to. Plywood gives the screws or t-nuts something to bite onto. MDF doesn't take screws all that well, especially if you have to remove the driver at some point.

follow this guys assembly. it really shows step by step instructions on building a sonosub. (there are three different projects at the top of the page).
