Off the top of my head I can't think of anything to help you. I'll think about it, though. I love Windows XP. I can't imagine how cool you think it is coming from ME. Man does that OS blow!

I am using Windows XP, and the onl problem I have thus far is that Shrek crashes the DVD ROM. There is a glitch with the graphics driver or some such crap. I'm bringing the HP 752n CPU back for a look see............

    Does Shrek crash your system?

Make sure to go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and get all the latest updates. Sometimes they also have better drivers than what shipped with the OS as well.

the wont shut off seems to be a software problem did it do that all the time? when you first got it? the cd burrner might just not be compatible with xp try un installing the cd burrner software then install the new drivers.

the shreck problem sounds like your dvd player is out of alignment i had that problem onmy last pc it would skip amd keep geting worse till it crashes.

It could be a simple fix as far as your power down "hang"

Make sure your BIOS has got the Power features disabled. If your PC is trying to shut devices off, and XP is also trying to shut devices down, you could just have a simple resorce conflict. as far as your CD burner goes... whats the Model #? Ill try to help if I can... last but not least... If you dont have an SB Audigy for your pc, then That is the greatest sound card out there (IMO). I have one with 2 seperate amps for as true of DSP as you can get... Also for 5.1 fans, just hook a fibre to your amp, and your on your way...

Thanks for all the tips.I used system back up and it fixed my shut off problems. I don't know why but it's fixed.
My cd burner is a Hewlett Packard cd-writer cd12 series.
It tells me I need to upgrade the driver and software but everytime I try to download, It just sits there and does nothing.
I downloaded all the updates for XP thanks. That was the first thing I did after I Installed it.
This computer that I built has given me problems since I owned it.
    It's fast PT2 @650 with 256 memory.Sound blaster live,Nvidia Gforce2 mx400 64 meg video card.15 gig hard drive.Intel motherboard....I think it is a 440dx or something like that I can't remember.
Drives Creative pc-dvd drive and the hp cd-12 writer.Floppy drive.

I was in the same boat, Windows Me was a nightmare. Bought windows Xp and was in much better shape, still had problems though. Went and did some surfing and shopping and ended up with Norton System Works 2002. It's a utilitys program, Scans Xp, your disc, and all the other guts, and goodies. My computer has run flawlessly since, and the bonus, for a year you get free online updates from Norton.
    Good Luck. Stuff MD

    1) Remove the device from your device manager. 2) Put your HP disk in your rom tray (if you don't have the disk, download device drivers from HP website and put them in folder with the rest of your burners files). 3) Restart computer and wait for it to detect your 'new' hardware. 4) If still no workie, go back to the device manager and highlight the cdburner (I'm assuming it has a question mark next to it?), click properties and select 'reinstall driver', then point your computer to the folder where you downloaded the latest device drivers.

    Still no workie?

98SE is still the best home OS as far as I'm concerned. It's flexibility (16/32 bit compatibility) is most appreciated.

Also found this link that mentions a compatibility wizard XP has that can help you to integrate your devices into it.

Hate to be a jerk, but you're smoking crack. The Audigy is a Live! with better DACs, pure and simple. It IS NOT a 24bit/96kHz card. It IS a 24bit/48kHz card. The DSP upsamples everything to 48kHz in the DSP, then downsamples to 44.1kHz for ouput (in most cases).

It's WAYYY overhyped. And it has lots of driver bugs.

If you want a high quality card, get a Terratec

Terratec. I took you up on that research, never had seen one before (due to the fact the nearest reseller is 600 mi. away) But I threw that piece of Junk Audigy card out, and drove to Chicago just to try one out. I now have a terratec, and am no longer smoking crack. Thanx for straightening me out.

    I was a little harsh, I apologize.

Unfortunately, there is little to nobody left in the PC audio industry to give Creative some competition. Hercules keeps at it, and then there are some "white box" soundcards, but nothing major retail to make a dent in Creative's armor.

This looks like a cool board, I've messed with one and they sound pretty snazzy actually. Dunno about getting them retail in the states though...

    Conclusion

So what ought to have been a duel turned out to not really be one, at all. The DMX 6Fire 24/96 and the Audigy Platinum are both 24-bit cards with an internal rack, but each has a completely different approach, different functions and a different target market.

We observed that in the music field, especially with regard to inputs/ outputs, the DMX 6Fire 24/96 is way ahead of its rival, which is not a "true" 24-bit/ 96-kHz card. But, when it comes to games, the Audigy takes the lead. However, it would be a mistake to stop your evaluation at these two areas where direct comparisons can be made.

The DMX 6Fire 24/96 is a card dedicated to recording, and it does this impeccably. The Audigy Platinum does not offer such a specialized choice and is much more versatile. Don't forget its SB1394 port, real-time effects DSP of virtually professional quality, its infrared remote control and its host of possibilities for games.

So, the user whose sole desire is a high-performance card for digital recording and for working in 24 bits/ 96 kHz should choose the DMX 6Fire 24/96, without forgetting that, for music creation and effects, it will need the extra investment of a dedicated card. And the user who is a bit less exacting about sound fidelity and neutrality but wants a lot of choice without having to invest too much money will have no trouble in opting for the Audigy Platinum. It's just a shame that Creative Labs did not go all the way to 24 bits/ 96 kHz, as this certainly would have drawn in more musicians.

In the United States, there is another good card, like the Terratec, but without the rack, called the M-Audio Delta 410. It is sold for a similar price and integrates more or less the same components, notably the IC Ensemble Envy 24.

Tom's Hardware... ugh, never liked that guy. I think he kinda sold out, but that's just me.

Well, if you are blowing the money on a DMX 6Fire, you would run something like Steinberg's Reason or Emagic Logic Audio which has MUCH better effects than the Audigy in software.

The Firewire connection is nice. Also, the 6Fire uses Sensaura 3D algorithm which is on par (if not better, IMO) than the Audigy in games.

I had a chance to Play with the logic audio... that is a fanstastic card, especially in the Midi and Wav Mixing!!! Im sorta a dabbler in Midi work, so I went to KC and played with a demo for a good hour and a half... If I just had the money and time, Id own one of those just for Mixing and recording purposes. ;)
