Lsi15’s Arrived!!!

After long wait the Lsi15’s have finally arrived. Apparently the 15’s were on backorder for some reason. Anyway, the two beauties are home now. Bought the 15’s for 2-channel duty. I have Rti series HT and didn’t like the Rti8’s for music. Don’t get me wrong the 8’s are awesome speakers for HT, but for my taste too bright for music. This is my opinion only.

After carefully unpacking the beauties I hooked them up with Parasound HCA 1500A (305wpc into 4 ohms). I used the Denon 3806 as a preamp and inexpensive universal DVD player. I know, I know…………have to get a tube preamp and a better transport for 2-channel music.

For my first auditioning I have used Diana Krall “The Look of Love” album. After all hookup and admiring the black piano speaker finish, I sat down in my sweet spot and pressed the button……….you know the one just emptied my bank account.

WOW………WOW…….WOW………compared to my Rti8’s WOW!!!………Holly abracadabra…….The separation of instruments and Diana’s voice were out of this World. The 15’s filled the whole room and soundstage was incredibly clean and clear. I could hear her breathing in and out as she was going onto the next verse. The detail of these speakers is absolutely impeccable. Those tweeters are totally fantastic. I’m very impressed with the Lsi15 speakers and would recommend them for 2-channel music listening any time. What is even better, my wife is in love with the high polished piano and cheery finish!

With tube preamp, better transport, bass management and speaker placement tweaking these babies are going to be awesome!

Most impressive.... and to think they've yet to break-in.

Congrats and enjoy your new speaks.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

The LSi's I've gone through take up to 100 hours, although you might be able to notice a drastic difference after 50 or so.

Thanks knownalien. Absolutely, these are nice speakers I love them. I noticed you have Lsi’s all around. I have never listened to all Lsi’s in HT. How do you like it? If I get the LsiC and lsi9’s for surround I would be all set.

    Hey Matt,

everyone here who owns Lsi’s is talking about how great they sound. You know what? They are not kidding. These speakers are awesome. The Rti series are wonderful speakers, but I like my music and had to have the Lsi’s.

If you are into 2-channel music listening for extended periods of time IMO the Lsi series is the way to go. Those tweeters reproduce music with fantastic accuracy and are not as harsh/bright as Rti’s for my ears anyway. Yes, there are many other brands of speakers that sound better than Lsi’s, but for the money these speakers are worth every penny and more. Matt listening to music on Lsi’s is totally different experience than the Rti’s.

    Cheers

Biamping my Rotel to give the RTi8's 200 watts/channel really changed the sound of them, but I'd still like to hear some LSi15's sometime. :D

Hey when you said the are many other brands of speakers that sound better than the LSi's would you consider the new Klipsch Reference? I love Polk Audio and the LSi's is on my Christmas List (LOL) but here lately have been thinking about Klipsch Reference all the way around. In your opinoin which one would you consider. Either one WILL BE hooked into either an Outlaw 990 & 7700 combo or Rotel RSP-1098 & RMB-1095,RB-1092 but more than likely the Outlaw Audio combo. Which one in y'alls opinoin would sound the best for HT and for 2-channel music too.

Klipsch is a nice speaker. I was looking at the Klipsch RF-63 with the 3 cerametallic woofers. I still like the sound of Lsi15’s. The tweeters make the speaker IMO. Everyonens’ taste for music is different. I would suggest to listen to both and make your choice.

Lot of members on this forum find Lsi15 to be laid back. Last night I hooked up the Lsi15’s straight to my Denon 3806 just for a short test. The idea was to find out if the Lsi15 tweeters would be brighter than hooked up with the Parasound HCA 1500A. Yes, they sound brighter for sure. I didn’t auditioned with the Denon for long as it is not a good idea to hook up Lsi15 (4 ohm) speakers to AVR. So the outcome of this test tells me, that mating the Lsi15’s with different amps can make the tweeters laid back or brighter. Of course this is only my opinion.

Anyway, for the $$ I still would recommend the 15’s. You can’t go wrong with either Outlaw or Rotel. Both are good choice of amps.

I'll be traveling for work the next couple days and just found out the town has a Tweeters. Called them up and guess what, they have some LSi15's available for demo :) They're powering them with a receiver they said, so I don't expect a lot. Hopefully, I'll have time to swing by and give them a listen!

another LSi fan...not much of a surprise. I loved them since I first heard my 9's in my 2 channel. As much as I loved my SDA1b's, I liked the sound of the LSi a little better. Once I got my 15's, I went all LSi in my theater and went the all tube route on my 2 channel.

Since I got the LSi's, my theater's performance when used in 2 channel mode greatly increased. With the solid state upstairs and the tubes downstairs, I really feel like I got the best of both worlds, and the LSi was a big part in making that happen.

I really feel Polk knocked it out of the park with the LSi series.

Hey Matt……..that is good news. Go and have a listen. Yes, you are right if they are powering them with AVR you won’t hear their full potential. 15’s are power hungry and need as much as power as possible. When you auditioning take your own music material you are familiar with and compare.
