Dwc56,
Welcome to the forum (even though you've been here awhile ) and I thank you for showing how easy it is to post respectfully.

Hey Fi, you are the nerd that I thought you were. Maybe by continuing from here out, without pissing on receivers or dumping you may be silent....but that may not allow you to reach 12,000 posts. Once again, get off the computer and get a life...and drive a real car rather than a dream. Good luck dude...

You know everyone here is laughing at you, don't you!?! So tell us, how's it feel to be a pimple on the **** of beetle?Political Correctness'.........defined

SWC,
Your Denon receiver will push the LSi9's and RTi8's. However you do not want to crank it up to much since you risk distortion which could harm your speakers or over-heating of your receiver which of course could harm your equipment. Your best bet is to add an amp so that you do not have to worry about any of those possible occurrences (yes, I know you did not want to add an amp. I am just suggesting that if you want to push 4ohm speakers with your current receiver at a fairly loud level, you would be well advised to purchase an amp.).
Mixing speakers like the LSi with the RTi's cause another problem called timbre mismatch. This is caused when the actual sound of one speaker does not have the same tone as another. The effect is that your soundstage does not sound uniform and progress smoothly from speaker to speaker. This is why the recommendation of getting all the same type (i.e., LSi's) were recommended.
Hopefully that summarizes all the questions and responses. (I know I just regurgitated what everyone else said). Now it would be nice if this thread just went away since it is cascading into nothing more than a food fight.Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)

Thanks Holydoc, all the info that I need. As for MS nut, take apole. I am single, no kids with 24 posts...you maybe 35 with kids and spouse and 11,000 posts. What's wrong with the family that yuou are here?

Don't thank me for just regurgitating what everyone else has said. I was merely trying to summarize what was said so that this thread could cease with the accusations and name calling.
Obviously, I failed miserably.Holydoc (Home Theatre Lover)

So I have done a ton of research after getting a 7.1 LSi system for a song and then realizing I had a potential amplification challenge on my hands (thanks to this forum and others). I have LSi9 FR and FL, LSiC, and 4 LCi65 surrounds. Will use an external SW from HSU Research. Likely crossover at 80 MHz...but TBD. I had intended to get a Denon AVR-3806 and call it a day. I need the two component outputs and not many AVR's offer that. And, this is a good value. After doing this reading I decided I could still use the AVR-3806, but I have read enough on this forum and others (such as www.audioholics.com and www.avsforum.com) to pretty much plan an separate amplification. For budgetary constraints, in this scenario I would go with an Outlaw 7125.
First question. Do I even have an issue given expected use of external SW and/or is the issue a function of what crossover freq. I choose?
Secondly, would the 7125 solve any issue if it is rated at 190 wpc at 4 ohm? I am tending to think it is a fine approach given the most recent posts.
Third, for about the same price I could get 3 Outlaw monoblocks that are rated at 200 wpc for 8 ohm. I thought I could hook those to the front 3 speakers and run the surrounds off the AVR-3806. Is one approach better than the other? -
Distinct from the questions I just posed above on the separates approach, I have also become interested in the new Marantz SR8001. This unit really solves another need I have which is multi-zone component out and I have also heard that of the major integrated pre/pro amps AVRs, that Marantz is more sturdy than Yammy, Denon, Pioneer Elite, etc. I know, still not as good as separates, but with the other feature needs I have it may be enough of an improvement vs, say, the AVR-3806 option that it would steal my will to spend extra dinero on separate amplification. The SR8001 is rated at 125 wpc, but also has a toroidal tranny. Any forecasts on its ability to play nicely with my 2xLSi9, LSiC, and 4xLCi65 system with HSU subwoofer? From these boards people have pretty much concluded that driving a Denon AVR-3806 (120 wpc) louder than -16 db is hard duty to causing protect shutdown, that an AVR-4306 (130 wpc) is nary a difference in helping the situation. But, that stepping up to the AVR-4806 in the Denon line could deter a need for separates as it is beefy enough. Well, coincidentally, in the Denon line the AVR-4806 is the first model up the chain that uses the toroidal transformer. In the newly released Marantz line, they use the toroidal tranny starting at the SR8001 that is rated at 125 wpc. Lots of folk believe toroidal tranny based systems are more efficient, stable, yada yada. Don't see near the exact experiential data on this board insofar as Marantz behavior or mal behavior with LSi's as you do with Denon. Hence, I am loooking for some guidance as to "expected" performance I might see short of having to do bunch of trial and error. Principally, because in order to get a good deal on an AVR-3806 or a SR8001 I am looking at non-local sources and returning a unit or ensemble (i.e if I depend on an Outlaw in the AVR-3806 case) is time intensive and potentially costly insofar as shipping and/or restocking fees.
Thanks
P.S. To be clear, my intention with the SR8001 would be to not use separates given the decision to buy it and benefit from some of its other features would steal some "outlaw" funds from my budget. But, if I get enough improvement that I can no longer "have to have" separates because the SR8001 with its toroidal is enough percentage better (15 or 20??) then the Denon's without it then I am likely good to go for my application. I will never have sustained use at -12 db....but I might do it sustained, at times, at -18 or even -16.....
