Sad news to hear. I will definitely miss his passion (some say crazy) devotion to the critters that he encountered. Apparently he was doing what he loved when he passed on, I hope that when my time comes I will be happy doing what I wish. RIP Croc Hunter!

I never liked him that much, more of a Jeff Corwin fan myself. But still, He definitely was doing what he loved. And he did a lot for that whole genre, which is very interesting and educational. Anyway, to summarize, it is a sad thing but a hell of a way to go out...

Always over the top....when Conan O'Brien and Steve wrestled that rubber crocodile into tiny pieces, I laughed my butt off. His own shows were always entertaining and educational. I am shocked and speechless....

That dude was one passionate motha. I really enjoyed his earlier shows before he became too commercialized. I feel bad for the kids but respect the way that he lived.

Very sad news. I really enjoyed his shows. Other than old age, I'm sure he would not have wanted to go out any other way. RIP

I just saw this on Fox News. This sucks bigtime.

Ive been a huge fan of his for years and have been watching his show since the 90's.

It is ironic how after all the times he shouldve died he goes out by a stingray.

    Man this sucks.

I feel so sorry for his 2 kids and wife Teri.

    RIP mate.

He was just so good that God probably was scratching his head trying to figure out how to make it his time. All he could come up with was a sneaky Stingray trick.

Marlon Perkins was NO Steve Erwin.

"Hello. This is Marlon Perkins and welcome to Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. This week, JIM will swing from a sheer rock cliff by jungle vine into the pterodactyl's nest, and secure one of the babies for us to examine. Meanwhile, AS USUAL, I'll be here at base camp narrating and cheering him on while I get trashed on Beefeater gin."

George, absolutely hilarious and so true! Dude sat his arse in a production studio and narrated all that stuff from there.

Steve Irwin, his body was wrapped around a gator wrestling with it AND narrating at the same time.

I'll miss the guy! Didn't matter what animal he was talking about. From the smallest and tamest to the wildest and most dangerous....he always had that passion in his voice and never downplayed any of them. They were all equally important and exotic.

Give Marlin a little credit....He wasn't merely a mouthpiece. During his career, he experienced several bites from venomous snakes. During a rehearsal of Zoo Parade, he was bitten by a timber rattlesnake. He was also bitten by a cottonmouth and a Gaboon viper.

Interesting report that Steve was always a bit apprehensive about shots in the ocean. He didn't feel like he had the control he had on land, and quite frankly that's true. He had said that if anything was going to happen to him that this is where it would happen. How true that was....

This was definitely a freak accident, and I feel so bad for his family. Loved watching the show, and I think he did more good than harm like his critics like to say.

I don't think it was Steve's job to coddle the minds of the morons who wanted to go out and swing deadly snakes around in the air, or tackle crocs without any knowledge. It was to create an interest and an enthusiasim for animals and reptiles. He did a great job with that.

The show was choreographed so that the staff all knew what he was going to do. What looked reckless on film was planned in advance, at least all of the known variables.

    RIP Steve.
