I'm cruising home from work today when I noticed huge piles of smoke in the air. Traffic was backing up, so I went around. Luckily, I had my camera with me. Some building was blazing away in an industrial park.

I managed to get close enough to get this.

Mind you, with my 70-200mm lens, my camera is HUGE and professional looking. I had people all over running up to me..."Which newspaper you from?" The first few people I just said I was an amateur local guy. They just gave me that "Sigh" and walked away.

I couldn't let that happen! The next group that asked..."Oh, I'm from the Baltimore Sun paper. Please let me get my shots for the paper. You can watch though!" LOL! I had a little group near me oooing and ahhhing as I snapped away in high speed mode. They loved my camera and thought it was the greatest!

All theyve succeded in doing is losing my business.

Ill be buying a digital camera in the next month or 2 and although I love Nikon, all my research and reviews that Ive read, Ill be passing them up and going with Fuji instead.

Now if Nikon had only made their compact cameras as good as their SLR cameras, theyd have my business.

Im sure theyre good but the Fuji's with the Super CCD are otustanding.

All the reviews on websites and magazines rave about em and the salesmen at Wolf think they are the greatest things since sliced bread.

Plus, they have like twice the battery life of Nikons.

Oh please. Every second of every day hundreds of people are being hurt, maimed, killed, or stricken with disease. Even the most bleeding heart of you can't give a flying crap about all of them. Unless it's in an orphanage or something, if I see a big fire I think "ooo, cool" long before I think "I hope everyone is all right". It's human nature, stop pretending it's not.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Great pic, man all the details in that shot, you could write the story from just that pic, predom, white lower mid class neighborhood adjacent to business district, shortly after school let out, multi alarm blaze fanned by prevailing wind spread rapidly, police are looking into possible gang activity in the area, yada yada, and yes, I hope no one was hurt or died.

    Thanks everyone!

I'm quite sure nobody was hurt. I left for work this morning and drove past it. There was still a small fire burning with other stuff smoldering. It was some business that unfortunately is no more (hope insurance gets them going again).

For those that asked, I have the Nikon D200 DSLR. The lens is the 70-200mm 2.8 VR. I also have the extended battery grip with vertical shutter release. Great great camera!!! I did feel like a reporter! Just needed glasses and I could do the Clark Kent thing.

Yeah Darla, friggin lookie loos all over the place. Damn rednecks! The firetruck in that shot just hooked the hose to the firehydrant and was preparing to drive forward. Dude just barreled through the lookie loos with sirens blazing! People were jumping out of way after literally getting crunched.

Wish i could have snapped that photo, but Mr. Policeman was pissed and told people to move their vehicles or they will be ticketed and towed. I didn't need the photo that bad! LOL!

Shizelbs, the Preamp sounds amazing! Going to give it a full workout this weekend as the tropical storm passes over and ruins the holiday weekend!

    Dear Chopped Liver:

Nope, this was in the Dundalk Area. Pennisula Hwy sound familiar?

I sent this to a local newspaper and asked if they wanted to use it for their next issue (once a week paper). Will see if I get a response.
